Nelson Sets School Record at Lions Invitational

NEW YORK (2/1/14) - Sophomore Dré Nelson set a Princeton school record in the men's 60-meter dash as the track & field team competed at the Lions Invitational at The Armory on Saturday, Feb. 1.

Nelson's record of 6.79 was recorded in the prelims of the 60. His previous best time of 6.84 was the former Princeton record, a time he posted last year at HYP. Nelson went on to finish sixth in the final of the 60 at 6.94.

Classmate John Hill also qualified for the final. Hill had the best collegiate time, finishing in fourth place at 6.90. Only four collegiates made the final out of 22 with two of them being Tigers.

Freshman Benjamin Gaylord recorded a personal best to win the pole vault. Gaylord launched over 4.90 for the win, bettering his previous best of 4.83. Unattached Adam Bragg was second at 4.90, while senior David Coneway was fourth at 4.60.

Back to the field events, senior Omar Jarrett was third in the high jump as he jumped to 1.09. Sophomore Jake Scinto cleared the same height in more attempts to take fifth. Scinto was the also the runner-up in the long jump, launching himself to 7.14. He was one of just two jumpers to clear seven meters. Senior Shane Molidor was fourth at 6.88.

In the throws, freshman Jared Bell was fourth in the shot put with a throw of 17.04.

In the distance events, senior Chris Bendtsen was fifth in the 3,000 at 8:20.30. Also posting a fifth-place finish was sophomore Greg Caldwell in the 60 hurdles, as he made the finals and sprinted to an 8.30.

Freshman Bryant Switzer was sixth in the 400 at 49.08 with the third-best collegiate time.

In one of the final events of the day, the 4x400 relay placed fifth with a time of 3:18.50.

Princeton will compete at Penn State's Sykes-Sabock Cup next Saturday, Feb. 8.

The Tigers distance medley relay made its way to Penn State on Friday, Jan. 31 to compete in the PSU National Open. The DMR of freshman William Paulson, freshman Ray Mennin, sophomore Luke Brahm and reigning national champion in the event Michael Williams finished seventh at 9:48.14.
