SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (12/6/13) – The Princeton men’s hockey fell 3-0 at No. 11 Union as the Tigers resumed conference play on Friday, Dec. 6 at Messa Rink.

Princeton freshman netminder Colton Phinney was one save shy of matching his career high with 31 stops. He made a number of spectacular saves as Union (9-3-2, 6-1 ECAC) had four power-play opportunities in the game, to Princeton’s one.

The Dutchmen capitalized on their first power-play opportunity of the game at 7:49 of the first period, as Kevin Sullivan scored on a Mat Bodie rebound.

Max Novack dug the puck out of the corner and skated in along the extended red but couldn’t stuff it in at the left post. He found Daniel Ciampini on the doorstep and he popped it in on the right side to make it 2-0 Union at 12:07 as the Dutchmen took a 2-0 lead after one.

With 1:06 remaining in the game Bodie sealed the win with a goal from Matt Wilkins.

The Tigers steadily improved their play each period but couldn’t get one past netminder Colin Stevens, who finished the game with 20 saves.

Sophomore Jonathan Liau had a short-handed breakaway chance but Stevens made the save on the one-on-one. Junior Aaron Kesselman and senior Andrew Ammon had another great effort with two minutes to play in the first period. Kesselman delivered a great pass to Ammon whose shot was saved by Stevens. Kesselman crashed the net for the rebound but the whistle blew for a face off.

Princeton (3-11, 2-7 ECAC) gets another chance tomorrow afternoon when it takes on Rensselaer at 4 p.m., at Houston Field House.
