Princeton U Soccer Team Cheers For Local Player Battling Tumor

WANTAGE — Forget about the brain tumor. Forget about losing sight in one eye. Forget about surgery in November after chemotherapy failed to stop the cancer.
Forget all of that.
Derek Watson did.
He's the brave nine-year old who scored his first goal of the season for the High Point Lightning team in a win over the Hanover Blue Dragons at Woodbourne Park on Sunday afternoon.
And, he got a very unusual ovation when he put the ball in the net.
Earlier this year, a non-profit foundation had matched up the soccer-crazy kid with the Princeton University men's soccer team.
Derek has been "adopted" by the Ivy Leaguers, sitting on the bench with them at their games, wearing the Princeton jersey, hanging out and goofing around with the guys, talking to them on the phone and exchanging text messages on a daily basis.
