Dartmouth Serves Up Five-Set Victory Over Princeton Volleyball
The Princeton women's volleyball team rallied out of a 2-0 hole Friday night, but dominant fifth-set serving sent Dartmouth to a 3-2 victory in Dillon Gym.
After dropping the first two sets 25-20 and 25-20, Princeton bounced back with a 25-20 victory of its own. The Tigers dominated the fourth set, hitting .481 in a 25-15 win, and grabbed a 2-1 lead in the fifth set.
The next time a rally happened, Dartmouth led 5-2. A Princeton service error and three straight aces by Stacey Benton put the Big Green in control. Another Dartmouth service ace helped carry the Big Green to a 15-9 win in the fifth set.
Princeton had five players with double-digit kills, including sophomore Kendall Peterkin, who had a team-best 15 kills to go along with 10 digs. Junior Sarah Hanna helped inspire the Princeton comeback with 13 kills and only one error, while the middle duo of Nicole Kincade and Tiana Woolridge combined for 20 kills, six blocks and only two hitting errors.
Freshman Cara Mattaliano also recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs, and she added three blocks and two digs, while classmate Lauren Miller had 50 assists and 12 digs. Sophomore Sarah Daschbach led the Tigers with 20 digs.
Princeton will return to the court Saturday at 5 pm to take on the Harvard Crimson, which remains in second place in the Ivy League following Friday's 3-1 win at Penn.
