PRINCETON, N.J. (9/5/13) - The Princeton men’s soccer team gets the 2013 season underway on Friday, Sept. 6 when it travels to Fairleigh Dickinson for a 7 p.m., match.

The Tigers own a 15-6-1 edge in the all-time series with FDU, including a 2-0 win from last season. Matt & Thomas Sanner both scored while Seth MacMillan made five saves in the shutout. FDU’s keeper Aleksander Djekic made two saves on four shots in the first before being replaced by Jacob Lissek for the second half.

FDU went on to reach the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament and finished with an 11-6-6 record. The Knights lost nine players including three of its top four scorers, who combined for 23 points. The top returning scorer is junior Nico Wright, who has one point this season. Receiving votes in the latest NSCAA national poll, the Knights are off to a 2-0 start to the season, defeating Drexel 1-0 on the road and Lehigh 1-0 at home on Labor Day. Senior David Cornwell and junior Godfred Baafi are the two goal scorers. The team has yet to allow a goal with Lissek stopping 10 shots on goal in both shutouts. Also in the defense is Hermann Trophy Watch List member Nicholas Walker.

Princeton returns nine of its 11 starters from last season when it posted an 8-6-2 record. The Tigers lost five seniors to graduation and bring in seven newcomers. The biggest voids will be that of Matt Sanner and Mark Linnville. Sanner has been in the top three in scoring each of the last four years. Linnville is a four-time first-team All-Ivy League center back. He finished tied for third in scoring last year with eight points, while limiting opponents to 0.96 goals allowed per game. The Tigers return the Ivy League Rookie of the Year in Thomas Sanner, who led the team in scoring last year. Junior Cameron Porter has been in the top three in scoring in his first two seasons and should provide offensive firepower. Seniors Billy McGuinness Patrick O’Neil and Chris Benedict will provide veteran leadership on the back line. Senior Dylan Bowman and junior Myles McGinley will most likely solidify the midfield. Senior goalkeeper Seth MacMillan should be getting the starting nod again this season. He made nine starts last year and played in 11 games. He finished the year with a 5-3-2 record with 3.5 shutouts.
