Tonight's top notes:

It's pretty straightforward for the Tigers: Keep winning, or the Ivy title hopes vanish. Barring an upset by Cornell of Harvard Saturday, the Tigers will need to win at Brown just to keep things alive through Tuesday, where Princeton will have to beat Penn to force a playoff with Harvard.

It was just two years ago that Princeton lost at Brown, ending an 8-0 start to the Ivy season. Princeton lost its last trip to Penn as well.

Eight times in the Ivy League era, Princeton has had its last three games of the Ivy season on the road. Only twice (1987, 1998) has Princeton gone 3-0 in those games. In the two instances since 1998, Princeton in 2002 won at Columbia and Cornell before losing at Penn, and in 2011, Princeton won at Dartmouth, lost at Harvard and won at Penn.

Princeton has not swept the Yale-Brown trip since 2010. In 2011, the Bears tripped up the Tigers, and last year and this year, it was Yale that dealt Princeton a defeat.

Princeton has swept the Yale-Brown road trip 26 times since the first season of Ivy play in 1956-57. However, in the last 15 seasons including 2012-13, the Tigers have recorded only three Yale-Brown road sweeps, in 2001, 2004 and 2010.

This is the latest that Princeton will face Yale or Brown in a regular-season game since the Tigers played Yale eight times on dates ranging from Mar. 9-16 from 1915-23. Princeton has never faced Brown this late in the season.

Of the five full Ivy League weekends so far, last weekend was easily Princeton's poorest shooting performance. The Tigers shot just .406 against Harvard and Dartmouth after shooting between .478 and .570 during the previous four league weekends. In the Brown-Yale home weekend, Princeton shot .528.

In conference play, Princeton is well ahead of the rest of the league in 3-point field goal percentage, hitting .484 to second-place Penn's .392. Princeton is also tops in the league in 3-point field goal percentage defense at .319 to Harvard's second-place .332. In other stats, Princeton leads the league in conference play in scoring defense (58.1 ppg), in scoring margin (+8.6), in field goal percentage (.499), in assists (14.4 apg), in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.2:1/gm) and in 3-pointers per game (7.3).

Princeton has been outstanding from the free throw line over the last three games, shooting .865 (77-89). Princeton has shot better than 80 percent from the line in 10 games this season, with seven of those games coming over the last 10 contests.

The All-Ivy League team is scheduled to be announced Wednesday, Mar. 13. Nominations close Thursday, with coaches having 48 hours to vote between Monday, Mar. 11 and the morning of Wednesday, Mar. 13. The whole season, not just the Ivy League season, is to be considered by the coaches in their voting.

Ian Hummer is aiming to become Princeton's first Ivy League Player of the Year since current assistant coach Brian Earl in 1999. Hummer is second in the Ivy on the season as a whole in scoring (16.0 ppg), fifth in rebounding (6.5 rpg), fourth in field goal percentage (.531), second in assists (4.2 apg), ninth in free throw percentage (.718), 10th in steals (1.3 spg), seventh in blocks (0.8 bpg), ninth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5:1), and seventh in minutes (33.9 mpg). Hummer's main competition for the POY award is Harvard's Wesley Saunders, who leads the league in scoring (16.6 ppg), is 19th in rebounding (4.1 rpg), second in field goal percentage (.546), seventh in assists (3.4 apg), seventh in free throw percentage (.729), first in steals (1.9 spg), and third in minutes (37.3 mpg) while not ranking in the top 10 in the other categories.

No Tiger has led the Ivy League in scoring since Brian Taylor '84 in 1972 at 26.2 ppg (Taylor entered with the Class of 1973), but Ian Hummer remains a possibility to do so, standing only 0.6 ppg behind Harvard's Wesley Saunders.

Having become the second-leading scorer in program history (1,586) and fifth-leading rebounder (717), Ian Hummer is moving into the spots on the Princeton charts in which he will likely end his career. Here are the lists on which Hummer could still realistically move up a spot:

• Field goals attempted: Currently fifth at 1,197, could still pass Pete Campbell '62 for fourth at 1,199.

• Free throws made: Currently eighth at 335, could still pass Arthur Loeb '25 for seventh at 342.

• Free throws attempted: Currently sixth at 505, could still pass Pete Campbell '62 (523) and Craig Robinson '83 (526) for fourth.

• Assists: Currently fifth at 301, could pass Mitch Henderson '98 (304) for fourth. Stat has been kept since 1974-75.

• Blocks: Currently fourth at 108, tied with Kareem Maddox '11 for third. Stat has been kept since 1974-75.

• Most games played: Currently second at 121, will likely pass Douglas Davis '12 for first at 122.

In conference play, 87 percent of Princeton's points are coming from the starting five.

Through Thursday's games nationally, Princeton was in the top 10 percent of Division I in scoring defense (12th, then 57.0 ppg allowed) and 3-point field goal percentage (11th, then .396).

Ian Hummer is the only Tiger to have scored in all 26 games this season, but freshman Hans Brase has the team's second-longest streak, scoring in the last 21 contests.

The Tigers are 10-2 when they shoot 50 percent or better and 6-8 when they shoot below 50 percent.

The Tigers are 6-0 when they hold opponents below 36 percent shooting and 10-10 when opponents shoot 36 percent or better.

Twelve of Princeton's 16 wins have come by double-digit point margins. Eight of the team's 10 losses have come by seven points or fewer.

Mar. 9 in Princeton basketball history:

Princeton is 11-8 all-time on Mar. 9.

Princeton's last game on Mar. 9 was in 2010, a 68-56 win over Penn in Jadwin Gym.

The Tigers have played three EIBL/Ivy playoff games on Mar. 9, in 1954 against Cornell (46-44 loss), in 1955 against Columbia (86-69 win) and in 1996 against Penn, a 63-56 overtime win over Penn at Lehigh to send the Tigers to the NCAA Tournament where they went on to upset UCLA.

Princeton has never faced Brown on Mar. 9.

The last seven games Princeton has had on Mar. 12 have been postseason or playoff games. In 2011, the Tigers beat Harvard at Yale to go to the NCAA Tournament. In 2002, it was an NIT loss at Louisville. In 1998, it was Princeton's last NCAA Tournament win, over UNLV in Hartford. In 1981 it was an NCAA loss to No. 18 BYU. In 1977, it was an NCAA loss to No. 6 Kentucky. In 1964, it was an NCAA win over N.C. State. And in 1955, it was an NCAA loss to Villanova.

Princeton is 2-3 against Penn on Mar. 12, with a 1921 road loss, a 1927 road win, a 1932 road win, a 1938 home loss, and a 1949 road loss.

Against Brown:

Princeton was strong defensively against the Bears in the first meeting, getting seven steals as part of 11 Brown turnovers while holding the Bears to .380 shooting overall and .083 (1-12) from 3-point range.

The Bears outrebounded Princeton behind a game-high nine boards apiece from Cedric Kuakumensah and from Rafael Maia, who nearly had a double-double with 19 points.

In the first meeting, no Brown player other than Maia had more than eight points. Maia took 17 of Brown's 50 shots, making seven, and he took 11 of the Bears' 15 free throw tries.

Princeton had just eight turnovers on the night against Brown in the first meeting, with no player committing more than two giveaways.

Princeton has won three in a row against Brown in Jadwin, but the Tigers have been inconsistent in Providence. The last class to sweep four from Brown in Providence was the Class of 2002, and since then, Brown has won six of 10 in Pizzitola including four straight from 2006-09.

Milestones:

With second place secured on the Princeton scoring list and first place out of reach, Ian Hummer can still move up a few spots on the Ivy League career scoring list. He's currently 23rd at 1,586 points. Still reasonably passable for Hummer are Brown's Jason Forte (2001-05) at 1,597, Penn's Michael Jordan (1997-00) at 1,604, Yale's Ed Petersen (1988-92) at 1,605, Dartmouth's Paul Erland (1969-72) at 1,606, and Columbia's Chet Forte (1954-57) at 1,611. Penn's Keven McDonald (1975-78) is next ahead of Chet Forte at 1,644.

Just as Bill Bradley '65 is far ahead of Ian Hummer atop the Princeton scoring list at 2,503 points, he's well ahead of his next-closest Ivy scorer. Jim Barton of Dartmouth (1985-89) is second on the Ivy scoring list at 2,158 points, one of only five players in Ivy history to score 2,000 points, with Barton and the other three doing so in four seasons to Bradley's three.

When Bradley overtook the Ivy scoring list, no other player had scored 2,000 points in his career. The record holder before Bradley was Yale's Tony Lavelli (1945-49) at 1,964, now sixth place.

Mitch Henderson is tied for 10th place on the Princeton coaching wins list with 36 victories, alongside J. Hill Zahn (1921-23). Henderson has a chance to be in ninth place by season's end, as Joe Scott '87 (2004-07) is in ninth place with 38 wins. Henderson's predecessor and former teammate Sydney Johnson '97 (2007-11) is in eighth place with 66 wins.

Entering the Season:

Princeton was picked first in the Ivy League preseason poll, getting 16 of 17 first-place votes out of the pool of two media members from each of the eight Ivy markets and one national writer.

Princeton is looking for double-digit Ivy League wins in four straight years for the first time since 2004.

On the program:

Princeton leads the Ivy League with 26 Ivy championships (56 seasons) and 24 NCAA Tournament appearances (all since 1952).

Mitch Henderson '98, the team's Franklin C. Cappon-Edward G. Green '40 head coach, is the 29th man to hold the job and the fourth consecutive alumnus to do so (John Thompson III '88, Joe Scott '87, Sydney Johnson '97).

Henderson, who played in three NCAA Tournaments for Princeton, spent 11 years at Northwestern under one of his former coaches at Princeton, Bill Carmody, as an assistant coach.

Princeton is tied for second with Kansas, and behind only North Carolina, in alumni as active Division I head coaches. Eight Tar Heels are roaming the sidelines, while six Jayhawks and these six Tigers are doing so: Thompson III '88 (Georgetown), Scott '87 (Denver), Johnson '97 (Fairfield), Henderson '98 (Princeton), Chris Mooney '94 (Richmond) and Craig Robinson '83 (Oregon State).
