Sanner Named Ivy Rookie of the Year; Linnville Gets Career Sweep

PRINCETON, N.J. (11/14/12) - Thomas Sanner has been named the Ivy League Men's Soccer Rookie of the Year it was announced by the league office today, Nov. 13. In addition, senior defender Mark Linnville completes the amazing feat of earning first-team honors all four years of his career.

Princeton's senior captains Linnville and Matt Sanner were both named first-team All-Ivy. Sophomore Cameron Porter was named second-team All-Ivy, while Thomas Sanner also earned Honorable Mention All-Ivy.

Sanner is Princeton's first Rookie of the Year since 1998 when Matt Behncke won the honor. He is the ninth Tiger to earn the honor, as he know joins: Paul Khoury (1982), Christopher Unger (1986), Jim Barlow (1987), Joe Thieman (1990), Michael Busch (1991), Andre Parris (1993) and Christopher Halupka (1995).

Thomas Sanner led Princeton in scoring this season with four goals and a team-high six assists for 14 points. Three of his four goals were game-winning goals. He was tied for fourth in the league in points and third in assists. Sanner was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week four times in the first five weeks of the season, a first in Ivy League history.

Linnville finishes his career with the amazing feat of earning first-team honors every single season. He becomes just the second Tiger to earn four first-team accolades since Thieman (90-93) and just seventh player in the league. He joins Barry Nix (Columbia 78-81), Stever Sirtis (Columbia 80-83), Oren Plitman (Columbia 89-92), Andrew Akpan (Harvard 06-09) and Lucky Mkosana (Dartmouth (08-11). The center back was fourth on the team in scoring with eight points. He scored in wins over Harvard and Penn and added four assists.

Matt Sanner has been a member of the All-Ivy teams since his freshman year. This is the second consecutive season he has been a first-team selection, after earning second-team honors as a sophomore and honorable mention as a freshman. Sanner was second on the team in scoring with 10 points. He tied his brother Thomas with a team-best four goals, while adding two assists. He ranks 10th in the league in points, eighth in goals and fourth in shots.

Porter was third on the team in scoring with two goals and four assists for eight points. He scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win over Dartmouth and the Tigers' goal in a 1-1 tie with Brown. Porter was sixth in the league in both assists and shots.
