Women's Hockey Falls to No. 9 Harvard

PRINCETON, N.J. (10/27/12) - The Princeton women's hockey team suffered a 9-1 loss to No. 9 Harvard Saturday conclude its home opening weekend at Hobey Baker Rink.

Two minutes in, Harvard earned its first power play of the game. The Crimson capitalized on the man-up opportunity, as freshman Mary Park put them up, 1-0, at 2:28.

Lyndsey Fry doubled Harvard's lead at 9:48, to end the first period with a 2-0 advantage.

In the second period, the Crimson expanded their lead to 4-0, with Fry netting both goals.

Princeton then responded with an aggressive run up the ice to break up Harvard's shutout. Senior Kelly Cooke scored her third goal of the young season off a pass from Corey Stearns at 13:30.

Harvard countered with two more goals before the end of the period to hold a 6-1 advantage over the Tigers.

The Crimson managed to add three more goals in the third period, with Jillian Dempsey scoring twice and Sarah Edney adding the final Harvard strike.

Princeton's goaltender Kimberly Newell had 34 saves over the first two periods. Sophomore Ashley Holt took over goalie duties in the third and had six saves.

Princeton (2-2) next travels to Cornell for a Friday, Nov. 2 meeting. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. against the Big Red in Ithaca, N.Y.
