A slow offensive start would be too much to overcome for the
No. 16 Princeton men's water polo team, as the Tigers were edged 10-9 by
Bucknell Sunday evening in Lewisburg, Pa.
The Bison managed to find the back of the net three times,
while holding off Princeton to a scoreless opening quarter. That 3-0 run would
prove to be the differential in the game, as the Tigers were forced to play
Both sides scored twice in the second quarter to go into
halftime with Bucknell leading 5-2.
Following the break, Princeton was unable find a scoring
rally to propel past the Bison, as both squads would find the back the net
three times apiece.
Down 8-5 entering the fourth quarter, the Tigers attempted a
come-from-behind run. Alex Gow would make five of his 12 saves in the quarter,
as the offense worked to even the score. With 49 seconds left in regulation,
Tommy Donahue evened the game, 9-9, but the defense would not be able hold off
the Bison to force overtime, as Bucknell managed to score the game-winner 11
Donahue, Drew Hoffenberg, Billy Tifft and Matt Weber each
scored twice in the game.
Princeton (10-10, 4-3 Southern) returns home to host Iona
and George Washington on Saturday, Oct. 20.
