The Princeton men's soccer team defeated Oxford University 3-0 on Saturday, March 31 at Roberts Stadium, as the Tigers hosted a friendly with the Blues from the second-oldest surviving University in the world.

Scoring for Princeton were sophomore Dylan Bowman, freshman Julian Griggs and freshman Cameron Porter.

"Playing Oxford was a lot of fun," captain Mark Linnville said. "It was rough on them with us being their fifth and last game of the trip. I think they sat a bit deeper than they normally would have, but you could tell that they were a talented team that liked to pass the ball and keep it on the ground. I think that the rest of their results speak to the caliber of the team. I believe that we were their only loss of their US tour, so I think they are very comparable to the upper level teams of the Ivy League."

"It was a good start to our spring season as the guys were really excited to get back on the field and they came out with a lot of energy," head coach Jim Barlow said. "We had moments where we connected very well and created scoring chances. The spring is an opportunity to experiment and start to figure out who will compete for jobs in the fall. The team is working hard and we all see a lot of potential  for our 2012 team."

The game at Princeton was Oxford's final game in its US tour. The Blues also played Harvard and Yale on the tour. Oxford tied Harvard on March 23 and defeated Yale on March 25.

"The team played very well on Saturday. We were all excited to be out there and for our first spring game, and with only two days of practice it was really a good showing by us," Linnville said. "There are obviously still many things in which we can continue to get better at, but I thought we showed great improvement in our passing and especially in our team defense up the field."
