Men's and Women's Soccer Programs Earn NSCAA Team Academic Awards

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (11/16/12) - The Princeton men's and women's soccer teams have been recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) with Team Academic Awards for its outstanding achievement in the classroom.

Princeton's men are one of 99 Division I teams that was recognized by the NSCAA for having team grade point averages of 3.0 of higher during the 2011-12 academic year, and the women were one of 227 Division I teams to make the cut.

The men's program had a cumulative GPA of 3.16 during the 2011-12 academic year, while the women were at 3.04.

The Tiger men had four players earn All-Ivy League honors as the squad posted a record of 5-10-2. At the conclusion of the season, one player was drafted and signed by the Philadelphia Union of the MLS. The women's squad was 6-10-1 overall and ended the season winning five of the last seven games. Nine games were decided by zero or one goal and five more decided by two goals. Four players were named All-Ivy League.

The 2012 teams will be eligible for the award next year, after the completion of the 2012-13 academic year.

This season, Princeton's women had eight All-Ivy League honorees in a 14-4-1 season that saw the team advance to the second round of the NCAA tournament. The men finished the season 8-6-2 overall and finished third in the league with a 4-1-2 mark with the 2012 Ivy League Rookie of the Year. Three additional players were named All-Ivy.
