Men's Soccer Announces Class of 2016

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/10/12) - Princeton head men’s soccer coach Jim Barlow has announced the recruiting class of seven student-athletes to join the team as the Class of 2016.

"Princeton soccer welcomes another very strong class to the program, and with a talented group of young players returning, we remain very excited for the 2012 season," Barlow said. "Coach Steve Totten deserves a lot of credit for identifying and recruiting such a talented group of players whom we think will thrive at Princeton on and off the field."

Jack Hilger - Midfielder - Hopkinton, Mass.
Jack Hilger is a midfielder from Hopkinton, Mass. He was a four-year varsity soccer player at Hopkinton High School. As a senior captain, Hilger scored 23 goals and added a school record 16 assists. This helped earn him all-state honors and the recognition of Tri-Valley League MVP. Other accolades from his senior year include making the Metrowest All-Stars team and the Boston Herald All-Scholastic team. Hilger also was named an Eastern Massachusetts All-Star and a Tri-Valley League All-Star for his sophomore, junior and senior seasons.

Hilger plays his club soccer for the New England Revolution youth academy. He joined the team in 2009 and has been a key member of the U16 and U18 Academy teams. For the 2010-11 season he was given the N.E. Revolution Coaches' Award, which recognizes the player that "leads by example both on and off the field, and is constantly looking to improve while representing the very best of the Revolution Academy." In 2011, Hilger was placed on the roster for a New England Revolution Reserve Team match.

Prior to joining the Revolution Academy, Hilger attended the U14 US National Team camp. He also spent three years on the Massachusetts Olympic Development Program (ODP) team and two years with the Region 1 ODP team. On the recruiting side of things, Hilger was tabbed as the No. 91 recruit in the nation by the soccer website TopDrawerSoccer.com.

Nico Hurtado-Ramirez - Forward - Key Biscane, Fla.
Nico Hurtado-Ramirez joins Princeton from Key Biscane, Fla. Hurtado-Ramirez enjoyed a standout career as a four-year starter and two-year captain at Ransom Everglades School. He broke the single season scoring record at Ransom with 38 goals as a junior. That year, he was named the Miami Herald Player of the Year and ESPN Rise recognized him as a top player in Florida. As a senior, he netted 61 goals to break a Miami Dade County single-season record that had stood for more than 30 years. Those 61 goals currently rank second in the nation for the 2011-12 high school season according to ESPN Rise. Hurtado-Ramirez finished high school with a school record 130 goals for his career. He was named Florida Coaches Association Player of the Year for his record breaking senior season.

After his senior season, Hurtado-Ramirez was selected to play in the Florida State All-Star game. His team won the championship and he was named MVP of the match. Hurtado-Ramirez plays his club soccer for the Real Madrid Soccer Academy of the Americas. This team finished as state cup finalists in 2010-11.

Ben Hummel - Goalkeeper - Orinda, Calif.
Benjamin Hummel is a goalkeeper from Orinda, Calif. He was a four-year member of the varsity team at the Bentley School, but first played goalkeeper as a sophomore. That year, he earned second-team all-league honors. He was named team captain as both a junior and senior, earning first-team all-league accolades both of those years. His team made the North Coast Section playoffs all four years.

Hummel was also the captain of his high school basketball team for his junior and senior years. In his senior season, the team went undefeated in league play and won a league championship. The team finished the season with a 23-8 overall record after making it to the semifinals of the NCS tournament and advancing into the state championships. Hummel was also named first-team all-league for basketball. For his accomplishments in soccer and basketball, Hummel was named the Junior Male Athlete of the Year for the Bentley School.

Hummel plays his club soccer for Diablo FC. He has also spent time in the ODP. In his first year as a goalkeeper, Ben made the Northern California State ODP team. He continues to play on this team. This past season, his NorCal ODP team earned a trip to ODP nationals where they went undefeated. Ben has also recently made the Region IV ODP team and traveled to the interregional competition.

John Kendall - Midfielder - Charlotte, N.C.
John Kendall is a midfielder from Charlotte, N.C.. John was a four-year starter for Charlotte Country Day School. He had a strong impact on the program right away. He was named team MVP while leading the team in points as a sophomore, junior and senior. He earned all-conference honors in those three seasons. Kendall was named team captain as a junior and held the post through his senior season. He was named all-region as a junior and senior. In addition, he earned all-state honors as a senior while scoring 14 goals and adding eight assists from the midfield.

Kendall joined the Charlotte Soccer Academy in 2010. Prior to the Academy, he helped lead his Charlotte United 93 Gold team to the state championship, while leading the team in goals and points. During this time, he was also a member of the N.C. ODP team that finished third at ODP nationals. Kendall was invited to the Region III ODP camp but could not attend. A highlight of 2010 was training with Reading FC in England for a week in April. After joining Charlotte Soccer Academy, Kendall was a regular starter on the U16 Academy team that finished as the No. 1 overall seed heading into the Academy playoffs in 2010-11. He has started 11 of 13 games for the U18 team this year.

Brendan McSherry - Midfielder - Freehold, N.J.
Brendan McSherry is a midfielder from Freehold, N.J. He led the Peddie School in scoring for his final three seasons. He was named to third-team Non-Public All-State his sophomore and junior seasons.  In his senior year McSherry earned second-team Non Public All-State honors and was also named team MVP and a Mercer County All-Star.

McSherry has been a long time captain of the very successful NJSA04 Gunners club team. This team won the New Jersey State Cup from 2005-08, while winning the Region 1 Championship in 2007 and 2008. The team went on to win the USYSA National Championship in 2008, before joining the Development Academy the following year. McSherry is currently leading his U18 Academy team in points.

McSherry has also played on the Region 1 ODP team in 2007 and 2008. During that time, he was brought in with the U14 National Team. McSherry was recently recognized by CollegeSoccerNews.com as the #87 recruit in the nation.

Josh Miller - Defender - Portland, Ore.
Josh Miller is a defender from Portland, Ore. He was a four-year member on the varsity team at Grant High School. The team won the state title in 2008 with Miller earning all-league honors as a freshman. Miller was awarded League Player of the Year honors as a sophomore and junior, while earning first-team all-state for both of those seasons. He would have to miss most of his senior season with an injury.

Miller plays his club soccer for Westside Metros Premier where he has been a captain since 2008. The team won the state cup every year from 2007-11. The 2010 season marked its best finish in the Far West Regionals, by making it to the semifinals. Miller also won the US Finals of the Manchester Cup in 2009 while playing with Arsenal FC.

Miller has also been involved with the state, regional, and national levels of the ODP program. He played for Oregon ODP from 2007-11. He played for the Region IV ODP team in 2007, 2008 and 2010. Miller was named to the interregional all-star team in 2010. He also made the U14 National Team in 2008. Miller is currently ranked the #109 recruit in the nation according to CollegeSoccerNews.com.

Thomas Sanner - Forward - Indianapolis, IN
Thomas Sanner is a forward from Indianapolis, Ind. Sanner played for North Central High School where he had a tremendous senior campaign. In 2011, he was named Indiana first-team all-state and NSCAA all-region. He was also selected as part of the Indianapolis Star Super Team, while collecting first-team all-district, all-county and all-conference accolades. In his final two years of high school, Sanner scored 45 goals in 38 games. He was named academic all-state from 2010-12. ESPN Rise listed Sanner as a top player in Indiana.

Sanner plays his club soccer for the Indiana United Fire Academy. He has been the leading scorer for his academy team from 2010-12, scoring 21 goals in 36 starts. He scored eight goals in eight games to start the 2011-12 season. Sanner served as team captain in 2010-11. He is rated as a four-star recruit, and the 10th best recruit in the Great Lakes region by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
