BOX SCORE

Round 1 went to the home team. Princeton's job now is to make sure that Round 2 means something.

Despite grabbing the opening set, the Princeton women's volleyball team dropped its first Ivy League match of the season 3-1 Friday night at Yale. The reigning Ivy League champion, Yale moved to 6-0 in the league and assumes a one-match lead over Princeton with eight matches to go.

The loss was Princeton's first in league play, though the Tigers have now played four of their six matches on the road. The Tigers will make that five when they take on Brown Saturday at 4; following that match, Princeton will play five of their final seven Ivy matches inside Dillon Gym.

Princeton took the opening set 25-22, but the key moment of the match happened late in the second set. A kill by Lydia Rudnick and an ace by Chelsea Parker opened a 21-19 lead in the second and opened the door for Princeton to take a 2-0 lead. Instead, Yale ran off six of the final seven points to grab a 25-22 win.

After the 10-minute intermission, Yale came out on fire in the third to grab a 17-9 lead. It held off a Princeton rally in the third for a 25-19 win, and it won a hard-fought fourth set 25-22.

Rudnick, whose younger sister Maddie is the Yale libero, led all players with 20 kills, while freshman Kendall Peterkin added 11 kills. Both players added 13 digs, while freshman libero Sarah Daschbach led Princeton with 25 digs.

Sophomore Ginny Willis led Princeton with 42 assists, while classmate Tiana Woolridge had six kills and three blocks. Fellow middle Leah Jordan added five kills while hitting .714, while sophomore Sarah Hanna added three kills.

The two teams will meet again during Princeton's home finale on Sat., Nov. 5, at 5 pm.
