Ratcliffe Becomes NCAA Leader in Hammer Throw
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (3/28/14) - Princeton's Julia Ratcliffe is the NCAA leader in the hammer throw. The sophomore threw to 66.31 at the Momouth Season Opener earlier this evening in West Long Branch, N.J.
The 66.31 (217-6.50) moved her from fourth place in the hammer throw standings to the top. In her first meet of the year, at the Walt Disney World Invitational, Ratcliffe threw the hammer to 62.97 (206-7).
The next best throw in the nation is 64.91 (212-11)
Ratcliffe owns the Ivy League and Princeton record in the event at 68.80 (225-8.75).
Sophomore Brielle Rowe was second in the discus with a throw of 37.50. Senior Chelsea Cioffi was fifth at 33.84. The pair also competed in the weight throw, with Cioffi throwing to 44.32 and Rowe to 40.92.
In the javelin, senior Ashley Vandolah and junior Sarah Waszkewitz finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Vandolah launched to 35.40 while Waszkewitz hit 33.60.
Princeton hosts the Sam Howell Invitational next weekend April 4 & 5.
