PRINCETON, N.J. (2/26/14) - Juniors Erin Slifer and Erin McMunn combined for seven of Princeton's goals as the No. 19-ranked Tigers defeated Rutgers, 11-4 in the home opener on Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium.
Slifer had a four-goal game while McMunn had five points on three goals and two helpers. Sophomores Anya Gersoff and Alexandra Bruno had two points apiece. Senior Caroline Franke was stellar in goal making seven saves for the win.
The loss is Rutgers first of the season and first in the series in two years.
After Kim Kolodny put Rutgers on the board first at 26:17, it was all Princeton for the remainder of the half it went on an 8-0 run.
The Tigers offense continued into the second half tallying four more goals to Rutgers' three. It was thanks in large part to the strength of the circle. Princeton won 13 of 17 draw controls with variety as 10 different players won at least one draw.
Candice Dandridge started in goal for Rutgers and made five saves before being pulled after the Tigers' seventh goal with 1:46 remaining in the first half. Amanda Currell would play the remainder and stopped four of eight shots.
Junior Annie Woehling also saw her first action of the season, playing the final 12:33 in goal for the Tigers and making one save.
The Tigers extend their home win streak to eight games and will look to make it nine when Princeton host No. 14 Georgetown this Saturday at 3 p.m. The game follows at noon Princeton/Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse game.
