Shon, Ku to Begin Play in U.S. Women's Amateur
Rising senior Kelly Shon and incoming freshman Hana Ku will begin play Monday in at the USGA's U.S. Women's Amateur championship at the Country Club of Charleston in Charleston, S.C.
Shon and Ku will start the event with two rounds of stroke play in a field of 156, with the top 64 players advancing to match play rounds that will begin Wednesday. Ku will start Monday at 7:50 a.m. on the first hole, with Shon starting at 12:40 p.m. on the 10th hole. Ku will have the later start Tuesday, at 12:50 p.m. on the 10th hole, with Shon starting on the first hole at 7:40 a.m.
Both Tigers have previous experience in USGA events. Ku played in the 2011 U.S. Girls' Amateur, the 2012 Women's Amateur Public Links, and this year Ku advanced to the Round of 32 at the U.S. Girls' Amateur. Shon has played in 11 USGA events, most recently the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links earlier this summer. This will be Shon's fourth straight U.S. Women's Amateur, with her best finish coming in 2010 when she advanced to the match play Round of 16. Shon earned a ticket to this year's event via her standing in the top 25 of the Women's World Amateur Golf Ranking.
