Final Stats

As the Princeton men's lacrosse team came back onto the Sherrerd Field turf after halftime Saturday, it was greeted by a group of men in orange Princeton jerseys who were exiting through the same gate.

The men in the orange jerseys were the members of the 1992 NCAA championship team, the first of Princeton's six NCAA winners, and they had just been honored at halftime on the 20th anniversary of their title. As the current Tigers came back on, the 1992 team formed something of a receiving line.

On a day to celebrate the past, admire the present and wonder what the future has in store, Princeton had four players with three goals each and three more with two each - not to mention one with a goal and four assists - in a 21-6 run past Dartmouth in front 1,618 on a sunny warm spring afternoon.

The win improved Princeton to 8-3 overall and 4-0 in the Ivy League and clinched a spot in the Ivy League tournament, which will be held May 4th and 6th either in Princeton or Ithaca. Dartmouth fell to 2-8, 0-4.

Princeton and Cornell are both 4-0, while Yale is now 3-2 after its four-overtime win over Brown Friday night, a win that earned the Bulldogs their spot in the field.

Regardless of what happens in next week's games between Princeton and Harvard and Cornell and Brown, the winner of the Princeton-Cornell game on Sherrerd Field on the 28th will host the Ivy tournament.

Princeton had its second big win in four days this week, as it outscored Rutgers and Dartmouth by a combined 34-10. The Tigers scored at least five goals in every quarter against the Big Green.

Dartmouth actually scored first, and it took Princeton 6:35 before it got its first of the day. After that, the goals started to come rapidly.

By the time it was over, Tom Schreiber (3G, 2A) and Will Himler (1G, 4A) had five points each, while Mike MacDonald, Jeff Froccaro and Luke Armour all had three. Freshman Brendan McGrath had the first two of his career, and Tucker Shanley and Forest Sonnenfeldt had two apiece as well.

In all, 13 players had at least one point for the Tigers, who scored their 21 goals on 46 shots. Princeton's Peter Smyth, Bobby Lucas and Justin Murphy combined to go 20 for 30 on face-offs.

Princeton High School grad Mike Olentine had two goals for Dartmouth.

Princeton led 10-2 at intermission and then scored four times in the first five minutes of the third quarter.

In between, Princeton honored 22 members of the 1992 team, including Hall-of-Famers Scott Bacigalupo and Kevin Lowe, Warrior Lacrosse founder David Morrow and Andy Moe, who scored the game-winning goal off the face-off of the second overtime to beat Syracuse 10-9 in the final.
