Another week of action, another pair of Princeton women’s water polo players collecting Southern Division weekly honors. Katie Rigler earned Player of the Week for the second time this season and Ashleigh Johnson was named Defensive Player of the Week for the third consecutive week.
Rigler is coming off an 11-goal, three-steal and two-assist performance at the Aztec Invitational last weekend. The senior had a pair of four-goal outings versus then-No. 13 UC San Diego and Cal Lutheran, and added a hat trick versus then-No. 10 San Jose State. She displayed her veteran leadership versus the 13th-ranked Tritons, scoring the game-winner in triple overtime.
The mainstay of the Tiger backline, Johnson earned her fifth Defensive Player of the Week award of the year and the ninth of her career, bringing her career divisional weekly accolade total to 11. The goalie picks up the honor after amassing 51 saves, 10 steals and three assists over 15 quarters of work. She has made 10 saves or more in 12 games this year, including a 15-save outing versus UCSD in the longest game of her career.
Rigler, Johnson and the No. 10 Tigers (17-1) will conclude their California road trip at the LMU Zumo Invite from Mar. 21-22 in Los Angeles.
