Following Princeton’s fifth-place finish at the 2013 NCAA Championship, Ashleigh Johnson ’16 and Katie Rigler ’14 were named Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-America selections. Johnson earned third team honors, while Rigler picked up honorable mention accolades for the third consecutive season.

“I am so happy for Ashleigh and Katie on each earning these well-deserved honors,” said head coach Luis Nicolao. “It is fantastic for Katie to be recognized for the third straight season and to have a freshman acknowledged on the third team is truly special. Ashleigh has the chance to do amazing things in her water polo career.”

Johnson is only the fourth Tiger to earn third team honors and first since Adele McCarthy-Beauvais ’03 in 2002. The immediate starter for Princeton, Johnson made a splash in her collegiate debut recording a program single-game record 19 saves on national television and went on to finish the year 28-6 in the cage. The goalie amassed 366 saves, a single-season program record, 47 steals, 22 assists and a 0.668 saves percentage. She was named the CWPA Southern Division Rookie of the Year and to the All-Southern First Team and the Eastern Championship Rookie of the Tournament and to the all-tournament first team.

Three-time All-America Rigler once again served as the Tigers’ scoring leader, guiding the offense with 66 goals. The Southern Division Player of the Year and Eastern Championship MVP, Rigler tallied 26 steals, 15 assists and eight blocks. She concluded the year being named to the NCAA Championship All-Tournament Second Team for the second time, following her All-Southern and Eastern Championship All-Tournament First Team honors.
