Another win means another undefeated week for the seventh-ranked Princeton women’s water polo team, as the Tigers were led by sophomores Ashleigh Johnson and Diana Murphy to an 11-9 victory over Harvard live on ESPNU on Mar. 2.
For their work the pair earned CWPA Southern Division weekly honors, with Murphy collecting her first career Player of the Week and Johnson picking up Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this year.
After battling Harvard for control much of the opening periods, Murphy posted a first half hat trick to give the Tigers the lead for good before halftime. She added an insurance goal in the second half, matching her career high with four goals.
Johnson took a quarter to find her rhythm in the cage and then was nearly impenetrable in the second half. After not making a save over the opening eight minutes, she finished with 17, the third-best total this season for the goalie. Johnson added two steals en route to her seventh career Defensive Player of the Week award and ninth divisional weekly accolade.
The Tigers (11-0) will now close out the year on the road, beginning at the Harvard Invitational for three games from Mar. 8-9.
