After a week break in play, the No. 12 Princeton women's
water polo team travels to George Washington (8-6, 2-1 Southern) for a Friday, Mar.
8 meeting at 7 p.m. The game marks the fifth road contest amidst the Tigers'
(11-2, 1-0 Southern) 13-game road swing.
Last Time Out: The
Tigers went 4-0 at the CWPA/MAAC Crossover from Feb. 23-24. They earned their
first shutout win of the year, 12-0, over Siena, and followed that up with
victories over Iona, Wagner and Villanova. Princeton outscored its opponents
54-23.
On Deck: The
extended road swing caps off with a spring break trip to Southern California.
The Tigers open at the San Diego State-hosted Aztec Invite from Mar. 16-17. The
following week, Princeton travels to Los Angeles for the LMU Invite. Five of
eight opponents the Tigers are slated to face are currently national ranked.
Tabbed at 12: Princeton
remains ranked 12th in the Women's Varsity Top 20 with 43 points. The only
other East Coast program ranked higher than the Tigers is CWPA rival Indiana at
No. 11.
Offensive Output: Seven
Tigers have 10 goals or more 13 games into the year. Juniors Katie Rigler and
Molly McBee headline the attack with 26 and 19 goals, respectively.
Saving the Day: Freshman
Ashleigh Johnson has already established a new single-game saves record with
19 and enters Friday's game with 151 saves on the year. She has nearly eclipsed
the all-time top-13 in saves in a season, a 159-save record set by Madeline
McCarthy in 2003. Ognjenka Vukmirovic owns the all-time record with 302, set in
1998.
Scouting George Washington:
The Colonials (8-6, 2-1 Southern) are riding a two-game winning streak
entering Friday's game. Three George Washington players have scored 21 or more
goals with freshman Hannah Cox's team-high 38 leading the way. Megan Brolley
serves as GWU's top defensive field player with 18 steals and in goal Chandler
Vilander has 76 saves, 110 goals against and a 10.48 goals against average.
