Southern Division Weekly Honors Go to Rigler and Ward
Princeton women's water polo players Katie Rigler and Kristen Ward earned Southern Division weekly honors for the second and third time, respectively this season. Rigler was named Player of the Week and Ward earned Defensive Player of the Week recognition.
Rigler (below), who takes home the conference's top weekly honor for the third time in her career, helped the Tigers propel past then-No. 20 Hartwick on April 6. The sophomore scored two of her four goals in the game in the third quarter, lifting Princeton to a 10-9 lead. Rigler provided an offensive momentum swing for the Tigers, helping the squad outlast the Hawks for a 13-10 win.
On the defensive end, Ward had nine saves over four quarters of work. After conceding a 3-1 lead in the first quarter to Hartwick, Ward orchestrated the Tiger defense to prevent the Hawks from controlling the scoreboard in the second half. Down 7-6 entering the third quarter, she had five saves on eight shots on goal over the final two periods. Her defensive prowess helped keep Princeton perfect at home this year at 10-0. This is the seventh time in the senior goalie's career that she has earned the honor.
No. 14 Princeton (22-4, 5-0 Southern) now heads to the Southern Championships hosted at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa. The Tigers are the No. 1 seed and will play at the winner of the fourth seed Bucknell - fifth seed George Washington matchup on Saturday, April 14 at 6:30 p.m.
