Box Score: Game One
Box Score: Game Two

After seeing Saturday’s game rained out, the Princeton baseball team concluded its three-game series versus UC Santa Barbara Sunday with a doubleheader sweep. Despite producing 10 runs, the Tigers were unable to manage their lead and ultimately fell 18-10 to open the day and the Gauchos carried their late momentum to an 11-0 series finale victory.

Both games saw freshmen pitchers make their starting debuts, with Keelan Smithers and Chad Powers going 3.0 innings with three strikeouts each.

Game one saw early offensive production in the form of multi-run innings.

Down 2-0 in the second, Princeton took its first lead of the weekend behind a five-run effort. Nick Hernandez led off with his first career double and from there the Tigers’ capitalized on two wild pitches and a pair of throwing errors by UCSB’s second baseman Woody Woodward.

Hernandez went 2-for-4 with two RBI, a run and a walk.

The multi-run motif extended through the top of the third, as both sides collected four runs apiece.

Princeton led 9-7 until UC Santa Barbara responded with three runs on two hits and the Tigers’ first of two errors in the fifth.

Errors continued to be a storyline, allowing the Tigers to tie it up, 10-10, in the sixth, but it would not be enough and the Gauchos closed out the game with eight more runs on six hits and an error.

Second baseman Alec Keller led the offense, going 3-for-6 with two runs and two RBI, and catcher Tyler Servais had a hit, two RBI and a run.

After tallying 10 hits and 10 runs, the Princeton bats struggled to come alive as they did earlier in the second game of the twinbill.

UCSB led 9-5 in hits, but a 4-0 error margin by the Tigers contributed to eight Gaucho runs in the loss.

Along with Powers earning the starting nod, classmate Bryce Keller pitched 2.0 hitless shutout relief innings to make his debut as well in the series bookend.

Sophomore Danny Hoy had two hits, three walks, two RBI and a run and freshman Danny Baer had three hits, two runs and a walk over both games.
