Another night of Ivy League women’s basketball, another showcase put on by Blake Dietrick whose game-high 28 points paced Princeton to a 96-75 win over Yale Saturday night at Jadwin Gym. The 96 points is a program season high and the victory extends the Tigers’ winning streak to five, as Princeton improved to 15-6, 5-1 Ivy and dropped the Bulldogs to 10-12, 4-4 Ivy on the season.

Dietrick, who established a new career high of 27 only the night before versus Brown, was unstoppable in the first half and had 25 points alone during the opening period. Capping off her 55-point weekend, the junior point guard went 11-for-18 from the field with four three-pointers and added a team-high six assists, with six boards, a block and a steal in 37 minutes versus the Bulldogs.

While Dietrick headlined the scoring effort, Princeton saw a well-rounded effort featuring five players in double figures. Four members of the sophomore class reached the feat, with Alex Wheatley tallying 15 on a 7-of-9 effort and Michelle Miller’s three triples for 14 points. Making her second straight start was Taylor Williams who had 13 points, going 6-for-7, with eight rebounds and a game-high three blocks.

Amanda Berntsen also reached the scoring mark with 10 points, going 4-for-6. The second-year guard missed last night due to illness and did not miss a beat in her in 12 minutes off the bench Saturday.

Princeton was led by Kristen Helmstetter’s game-high 10 rebounds, as the Tigers held a 46-27 margin over the Bulldogs. The senior nearly had a double-double, finishing with nine points in her all-around effort.

Yale held Princeton within range through most of the first half, combatting the Tigers’ double digit leads and coming as close as seven, 32-25, at 5:40. While Princeton remained in control it needed a 12-3 run to close out the period to seal the game’s momentum and the lead for good.

After coming out of the break with a 49-33 lead, the Bulldogs put together their best effort to close in on the Tigers and made it a nine-point ball game twice over the first five minutes of the second half.

Displaying its cohesion and resilience, Princeton quickly picked up its play and jutted to a 34-point advantage, 87-55, at 7:12.

Yale would never get closer than 21 for the remainder of the contest.

Princeton nearly shot 60 percent, going 59.7 (37-for-62) to Yale’s 41.5 percent (27-for-65). The Tigers also led 22-13 in assists and 6-3 in blocks.

The Tigers will now prepare for a big weekend on the road at Dartmouth (Feb. 21) and Harvard (Feb. 22).

Postgame Notes: Princeton scored a 2013-14 season-high 96 points … the all-time program high is 99 versus Yale on Feb. 10, 2013 in New Haven, Conn. … Blake Dietrick scored a career and team season-high 28 points … the Tigers had five players score in double figures for the first time since Nov. 17, 2013.
