PRINCETON, N.J. (11/5/13) - The Princeton men's soccer lost its final non-league game of the season, 2-0 to American on Tuesday, Nov. 5 on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium.

The Tigers were shutout for the first time at home since Sept. 29.

American got on the board in the 6th minute and added insurance in the 77th.

The teams started the game with different line-ups than usual. Both teams used back-up keepers as Dylan Hobart played in place of Billy Knutsen for American and Ben Hummel played in place of Seth MacMillan. Both Hobart and Hummel had seen action in just one game this season.

American sat its top scorer Cristobal Soto after he received his fifth yellow card in the last game. On the Princeton end the Tigers started just five of its regular starters, giving some players some rest for league games. Eventually the Tigers started to sub those regular starters in at the close of the first half, and at the start of the second half it was Princeton's normal 10 field players on the pitch.

Patrick Melhert scored the early goal at 5:41 on the team's first shot on goal. Jake Garcia had the ball at the touchline and sent it into the box for Chris Kuramoto. Kuramoto had the ball near the end line and centered it for Mehlert who popped it in.

The Tigers had a number of chances to get on the board with junior Cameron Porter and freshman Greg Seifert each having two shots on goal. The best chance of the night came off a corner kick in the 75th minute. Sophomore Thomas Sanner had a look off a Myles McGinley corner kick but it was saved by Hobart. Sophomore Nico Hurtado tried for the rebound but couldn't get it to go.

A freak goal made it 2-0 when a set piece from Charlie Hunter about 20 yards out took a hop and went through the legs of Hummel.

Princeton outshot American 13-8 with Hummel making one stop and Hobart stopping seven on the other end.

The Tigers resume Ivy League action on Saturday as they travel to Penn for a 4 p.m., game. Princeton and Penn are currently both in second place in the league standings at 3-1-1.
