The No. 11 Princeton men’s water polo team beat La Verne in a rousing 13-5 victory to snap a two-game losing skid, sandwiched by losses to the top-ranked teams in the nation Saturday in Southern California. The Tigers opened Saturday’s action with a 22-4 defeat at No. 2 USC and concluded the day with a valiant effort at No. 1 UCLA but ultimately fell 15-3.

Princeton goes to 8-3, 3-0 Southern on the year, suffering all three losses to top-seven teams. The Tigers close out its West Coast road trip with Claremont McKenna and Whittier on Sunday.

Jovan Jeremic found the back of the net three times and Thomas Nelson scored once in Princeton’s loss to the 12-time national champion Trojans. In goal, Ben Dearborn made nine saves over three quarters and Tyler Amina notched a pair in the fourth.

Princeton managed to slow down the USC attack in the first quarter, limiting them to a 4-1 lead off Jeremic’s goal with 27 seconds left, but the Tiger defensive efforts were not enough to keep the game within range.

USC went on to add four or more goals over the remaining quarters, outscoring Princeton 18-3 to put away the victory.

The Tigers rebounded with a decisive win over La Verne behind Jeremic and Nelson’s three-goal effort.

Freshman Jeremic has a team-best six goals on the day, thus far.

Amina earned the start in the cage and made 13 saves and four steals, picking up his first complete victory of the year against the Leopards.

He shutout La Verne over the first two quarters, while Princeton jumped out to a 7-0 advantage.

The Leopards managed to break up the clean sheet with five goals in the second half, but it was not enough to slow down the Tigers.

A.J. Galainena finished with two steals, two assists and a goal, and Curtis Fink had a pair of goals and steals.
