Michael Strand was one of seven Princeton Tigers to win an individual event in the Penn-Cornell tri-meet Saturday.

The 25th-ranked Princeton men's swimming and diving team opened its 2012-13 dual meet season with a sweep of Penn and Cornell at Sheerr Pool in Philadelphia Saturday afternoon. Princeton defeated Cornell 211-87, while it topped Penn 160-130.

Princeton got multiple-event victories from Stevie Vines (1-meter, 3-meter diving), Harrison Wagner (50 free, 100 free), En-Wei Hu-Van Wright (200 free, 200 back) and Byron Sanborn (100 breast, 200 breast), and it also captured both relays.

Hu-Van Wright was especially impressive in winning the 200 back. His time of 1:47.33 broke the Sheerr Pool record that had stood since 1999, and it moved into the Princeton Top 10. He also won the 200 free in 1:40.29.

Vines opened the day with a 1-meter winning score of 311.25 points, while he won the 3-meter event with 349.55 points. Both Michael Manhard and Mark O'Connell added second-place finishes.

Sanborn won the 100 breast in 57.33, only .11 of a second faster than teammate Daniel Hasler, and he won the 200 breast in 2:04.29. Wagner won the 50 in 20.55, and he followed with a win in the 100 in 45.51. Jeremy Wong took second in both events.

Michael Strand (100 back, 49.51), Marco Bove (200 fly, 1:49.58) and Teo D'Alessandro (200 IM, 1:52,73) were also individual winners for Princeton, which moved to 2-0 on the season. The Princeton quartet of Kaspar Raigla, Jack Pohlmann, Strand and Wagner won the 200 medley relay in 1:31.24, while the team of Hu-Van Wright, Wong, Sanborn and Harrison won the 400 free relay in 3:01.87.

The Tigers will be off next weekend, and then will head to Providence for the first weekend of December to compete in the Brown Open.

That will be the site of the 2013 Ivy League Men's Swimming & Diving Championships.
