COMPLETE BRACKETS l CHRIS AYRES VIDEO RECAP

Sophomore Abram Ayala clinched his berth at the 2014 NCAA Championships during the first day of the EIWA Championships, but the rest of his teammates will have to wait for the committee to announce at-large bid to nationals. Both Adam Krop (149) and Brett Harner (184) earned fifth-place finishes and will have to hope for tickets to Oklahoma City.

Krop, Harner and Ayala (197) each finished fifth at the 2014 EIWA Championships, held this weekend at the Palestra. Teammates Kevin Moylan (157) and Ray O'Donnell (285) also finished on the medal podium, as both placed eighth in their respective weight classes.

Princeton finished 12th in the team standings with 50.5 points.

Both Krop and Harner needed to win their first two matches to earn one of four automatic bids at their respective weight classes, but neither could upset a higher-seeded opponent to finish the task.

Krop opened his journey in impressive fashion, scoring a fall over eighth-seeded Noel Blanco of Drexel to reach the consolation semifinal. He grabbed an early lead against third-seeded Cody Ruggirello, but the Hofstra junior was able to score a takedown to grab a one-point lead going into the third period. Ruggirello scored the only takedown of the third to finish a 7-4 win; Krop kept his NCAA hopes alive with a 10-5 win over Alex Johnson to claim fifth.

Harner had a scare in his first match, going down 2-0 early to eighth-seeded Caleb Wallace of Binghamton. He fought back to even the score at 4-4 in the third period, and he won a scramble in the final 20 seconds to secure a spot in the consolation semifinal. Harner went against third-seeded Ophir Bernstein, and opened a 2-0 lead with an early takedown. Bernstein escaped and scored a takedown of his own. He was able to turn Harner and get the fall at 2:49. Harner came back and avenged a quarterfinal loss to Harvard's Cameron Croy with a 3-2 win for fifth place.

Ayala was Princeton's lone semifinalist, where he faced second-seeded Jace Bennett of Cornell. The Tiger sophomore was able to get in on an ankle early, but Bennett turned the scramble and scored his own takedown. As Ayala fought to escape, he ended up on his back, where Bennett kept him for a first-period fall. Ayala ended up finishing fifth, but he will continue his journey at the NCAA Championships.

Both Moylan and O'Donnell went 0-2 on the day to finish eighth.
