Men's Track Wins Five in Final Indoor Meet

PRINCETON, N.J. (2/23/14) – In the final week before Heps, the Princeton track & field team hosted the Princeton Invitational at Jadwin Gym. The Tigers won five events on the afternoon - the weight, shot put, pole vault, hurdles and 400.

Senior Jake Taylor and freshman Jong-Min Youn went 1-2 in the weight throw. Taylor threw to 16.19 (53-1.50) while Youn reached 15.79 (51-9.75). They were the only two to throw over 50 feet. Junior Scott Rushton won the shot put with a toss of 17.43 (57-2.24). Freshman Christopher Cook was third at 16.80 (55-1.50) and classmate Jared Bell was fifth at 16.54 (54-3.25).

Tigers went 1-2 in the pole vault, led by junior Adam Bragg. Bragg cleared 5.25 (17-2.75) the only vaulter to clear 17 feet. Rookie Ben Gaylord was the runner up at 4.95 (16-2.75).

Three Tigers finished in the top five in the jumps. Senior Omar Jarrett was the runner-up in the high jump, clearing 2.09 (6-9.75) while junior Stephen Soerens was fourth at 1.89 (6-2.25). In the triple jump, junior Nana Owusu-Nyantekyi was third at 14.21 (46-7.50)

Sophomore Greg Caldwell and junior Rob Mohr went 1-2 in the 60 hurdles. Caldwell won with an 8.20 while Mohr clocked an 8.31.

Sophomore Dre Nelson was the top collegiate in the 60, finishing third overall at 6.93. He and teammate junior Tommaso Greenbaum were the only two collegians that finished in the top 10 amid a large group of track club competitors.

In the 400 it was junior Daniel McCord that crossed the line first. He clocked a 50.23 for the win. The Tigers then went 4-5-6-6 in the event. Sophomore Jabari Johnson was fourth at 50.76, sophomore Jordan Myers ran 50.99 and freshmen Greg Leeper and Bryant Switzer both clocked 51.07 to tie for sixth place.

Finishing off the middle distance races was a second-place finish by freshman Ray Mennin in the 500 at 1:05.58 and a third-place finish by senior George Galasso in the 800 with a time of 1:57.73

Former Tiger Michael Franklin ’13 won the 3k at 8:26.70. No current Tiger competed in the event.
