Men's Water Polo Opens Southerns with 16-7 Win vs. Notre Dame College

The No. 18 Princeton men's water polo team opened up the CWPA Southern Division Championship with a 16-7 victory over seventh-seeded Notre Dame College Friday evening in Lewisburg, Pa.

The No. 2 seed Tigers will face 11th-seeded Penn State Behrend tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 3 at 10:10 a.m. to conclude bracket play. Based on its finish in group play, Princeton will face an opponent to be determined in the afternoon.

The Tigers jumped into the driver's seat from the get-go, holding off the Falcons throughout the 32-minute contest. Princeton went on a 5-0 run in the first quarter, seeing goals from five different players during that span.

NDC attempted to counter, coming as close as 5-3 at 2:45 in the second quarter, but the Tigers' responded with another 5-0 rally entering the third.

Up 11-6 in the fourth quarter, Princeton remained in control and improved its advantage with a final 5-1 run.

Matt Weber had his fourth consecutive four-goal or more performance, tallying four goals and a steal.

Tim Wenzlau had a team-high five steals, and Drew Hoffenberg notched four steals, two goals and an assist. Sam Butler made a team-best five assists and added two steals and a goal.

Tyler Amina made his first start in goal and had 11 saves, earning the complete game victory.
