Michael Dye '13 Continues Volleyball Career On Swedish Professional Team
Michael Dye, a former first-team All-EIVA honoree and a starter on Princeton's 2010 EIVA finalist squad, has continued his professional career in Sweden, where he plays for Vingåkers Volleybollklubb.
"After playing volleyball at Princeton for four years, I was not ready to give up the sport that I love and have played since I was a kid," Dye said. "Professional indoor volleyball does not exist in America, so I took the opportunity to play professionally in Europe.
"With a degree from Princeton and after interning the past few summers at Credit Suisse, I was able to secure good standing in the company," Dye added. "I will return as a full-time employee starting in July 2014. But for the next seven months, I am off to Sweden to play volleyball, learn Swedish, and travel around Europe for the first time in my life."
Dye, a four-year Princeton starter, led the Tigers to the EIVA postseason three times, including a run to the finals in 2010. As a senior, he helped Princeton knock off two ranked teams, matching a program-best, and he ranked among the league leaders in blocks.
A consistent part of both Princeton's offensive and defensive attack, Dye was a team co-captain as a senior. His career honors included a spot on the 2010 EIVA all-tournament team and multiple spots on the All-EIVA team, including first-team honors in 2012.
"I'm so excited that Mike Dye is continuing to play the sport he loves at the professional level," head coach Sam Shweisky said. "He and I came to Princeton at the same time, and he was part of the first class I spent four years with, so I have a close bond with Mike. He was both a great player and leader for our program, and I know he'll do a fantastic job in Sweden."
