Women's XC Runs in Open Race at Paul Short Invitational
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (10/6/13) – The Princeton women’s cross country team was able to compete in the women’s open 6k race before the Paul Short Invitational meet was cancelled by the county.
Freshman Nicole Marvin posted the fastest time for the Tigers, clocking a 22:18 to finish 30th out of 484 total runners. Junior Jackie Nicholas and freshman Zoe Sims finished in the top 50 with times of 22:31 and 22:40, respectively. Sophomore Sarah Porter ran a 23:24 to finish 95th. Sophomore Amanda Chang, senior Henriette Miers and freshman Mary Hui all finished under 24 minutes at 23:26, 23:45 and 23:47.
Temperatures soared into the 90s and with heat-related illnesses and many athletes being sent to hospitals the meet was called by the Lehigh and Northhampton Counties EMS.
"We along with many other towns in the county have outdoor events going on in the heat today," Lehigh Director of Facilities Greg Schulze said. "Due to the weather, the emergency services have been overwhelmed and spread thin. It is in the best interest of the athletes to shut down the event."
Princeton will compete in two meets again next weekend. The top group will head to Terre Haute for the Pre-Nationals while the rest of the team stays back in Princeton to host the Princeton Invitational on West Windsor Fields.Princeton Finishers
