PRINCETON, N.J. (3/3/13) - Junior Sarah Lloyd tied the Princeton record for assists in a game with six, as she helped to lead the women's lacrosse team to an 18-13 win over Southern California on Sunday, March 3 at Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium.

Lloyd matches the record set just last season by then-freshman Erin McMunn, who had six assists against Temple. Lloyd also had a career-high eight draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

McMunn had a big game as well matching her career best of seven points with three goals and four assists. Junior Mary-Kate Sivilli led the Tigers in goals as she tallied a career-high five goals, scoring on all five shots. Freshman Anya Gersoff have a five-point game as well with three goals and two assists. Seniors Charlotte Davis and Jaci Gassaway, and freshman Alexandra Bruno had two goals apiece.

The Tigers jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first 8:19 and made it 6-2 shortly thereafter. Lloyd had four of her six assists during those first 11 minutes of the game.

Caroline de Lyra single-handily kept USC in the game as the Trojans went on a 6-2 run to knot the game at 8-8 with less than six minutes to play in the first half. de Lyra factored into five of those six goals, scoring four and assisting on one.

Princeton called timeout, regrouped and regained the lead, with goals by Gersoff and Sivilli in the final two minutes to take a 10-8 lead into halftime.

The teams traded goals to start the second half with Princeton maintaining its two-goal lead with goals from McMunn and Sivilli from the eight-meter, while Caroline Cordrey and Paige Bonomi scored for USC.

It was after Bonomi's goal that Caroline Franke replaced Annie Woehling in goal. Franke would allow her team to take its largest lead of the game as she made five saves on eight shots in the final 17:08 to earn her first career win in goal.

Gassaway tallied her first goals of the season, getting two as Princeton scored three unanswered to take its largest lead of the game, 15-10.

The Trojans would creep within three with two more from de Lyra and one from Amanda Johansen with less than seven minutes to play in the goal.

Sivilli and Charlotte Davis would have the final answers with goals at 5:14 and 18.7 to give Princeton the 18-13 win.

de Lyra had a nine-point game for USC with eight goals and one assist. Cordrey had a three-point game with one goal and two helpers, while Bonomi scored twice. Johnansen had two points as well with a goal and an assist.

Liz Shaeffer made six saves on 24 shots for USC, which drops to 3-3 in its first varsity season.

Princeton had a 34-23 edge in shots. The Tigers won the draw control battle, 18-15 and picked up five more ground balls, 16-11.

Princeton improves to 2-1 and hosts Brown in the Ivy League season opener on Saturday, March 9 at 1 p.m.
