The Tiger seniors are trying to become the first class since the Class of 1992 to sweep four years from Penn in Jadwin Gym.

Princeton has won 17 straight Ivy League games at home, the most since the team won 26 in a row from 1996-99.

Princeton will have its first five Ivy League games at home for the second time in three years. In 2011, the Tigers were able to use the 5-0 start toward a 12-2 Ivy finish.

The only classes in the Jadwin Gym era (since 1969) to win all their games against Penn in Princeton were the Classes of 1977 (three games, pre-freshman eligibility), 1991 and 1992.

Princeton had started 1-0 in the Ivy League in four straight years before Cornell got the Tigers in Ithaca last season. Princeton has won its last three Ivy League openers to occur in Jadwin Gym, in 2006, 2008 and 2010.

This will be the first time since 1996 that Princeton will open Ivy League play against Penn in Jadwin Gym.

Senior Ian Hummer had his fourth Ivy League Player of the Week honor this season, all in the last five weeks. He is the only Tiger since the award's inception in 1985 to win four in a season and the only one to win six in a career. The league's single-season mark for awards in one season is five, and the career mark is nine.

Princeton has shot better than 40 percent from the field in each of seven straight games. During that span, Princeton is shooting .485 from the field.

Princeton has outrebounded four straight opponents, the first time the team has done that since outrebounding five straight opponents during last year's Ivy League season. Prior to the last four games, Princeton had not outrebounded their foes in back-to-back games this season.

The Tigers are 4-0 when they shoot 50 percent or better and 2-7 when they shoot below 50 percent.

The Tigers are 3-0 when they hold opponents below 36 percent shooting and 3-7 when opponents shoot 36 percent or better.

Five of Princeton's six wins, including the last five wins, have come by double-digit point margins. Six of the team's seven losses have come by seven points or fewer.

Princeton's top NCAA statistical ranking through games of Jan. 6 was in scoring defense, where Princeton's opponents' 59.0 ppg scored is 39th-lowest in Division I.

Princeton is 4-0 when T.J. Bray reaches double digits in points, with wins over Lafayette (17), Kent State (15), Bucknell (11) and Elon (12). Mack Darrow (10 vs. Bucknell) is the only other player where Princeton has won all of his double-digit scoring games.

Princeton is 18-12 all-time on Jan. 12. Here are some notes and notable games to occur on that date:

2007: The last time Princeton played on Jan. 12, Columbia won in Manhattan, 64-56.

1981: Fordham came to Jadwin Gym and defeated the Tigers 53-50 in triple overtime.

1946: The last time a (future) Ivy League team came into Jadwin Gym and won on Jan. 12, Cornell beat the Tigers 51-40. Princeton has won eight straight games against Ivy teams on Jan. 12 in Jadwin Gym.

1906: In the first of three times (1906, 1918, 1927) Princeton and Penn met on Jan. 12, the Quakers beat the Tigers 40-5 in Philadelphia.

In the Ivy League era, Princeton is 10-3 against Ivy teams on Jan. 12.

Against Penn:

Princeton has won six of the last seven games against Penn, including three straight in Jadwin Gym.

The last three Penn-Princeton games have been decided by double-digit margins.

The teams are very different from the last time they met, on March 6, 2012 in Jadwin. Both lost a high-scoring guard, Penn with Zack Rosen and Princeton with Douglas Davis, among other contributors lost to graduation. Penn returns only 22 of its 52 points from that game, while Princeton returns 38 of 62.

Rebounding and defense were the keys to Princeton flipping a Jan. 30, 2012 loss at The Palestra to a win in Jadwin Gym on March 6, 2012. In the first meeting at Penn, the Quakers outrebounded Princeton 33-19 and shot 53.1 percent. In the rematch, Princeton outrebounded Penn 31-23 and held the Quakers to 38.6 percent shooting. The Tigers also got to the free throw line 20 times to Penn’s three in the rematch, reversing what was a 30-17 Quaker edge in the first meeting.

Prior to Princeton's run against Penn of winning six of the last seven games, Penn had won 16 of the 20 games after Princeton's memorable comeback from 27 points down in the second half to win 50-49 at The Palestra on Feb. 9, 1999.

Princeton's 24-point halftime deficit in that 1999 game at The Palestra (33-9) was the largest halftime deficit in NCAA Division I overcome for a win since 1950. The 27-point deficit was the fifth-largest deficit overcome at any point in the game in NCAA Division I history (record is 31, by Duke over Tulane in 1950 and Kentucky over LSU in 1994).

Princeton and Penn have met 226 times, the Quakers winning 123. Princeton and Yale have played 226 times as well, though Columbia is Princeton's most-played rival at 227 meetings.

When Penn coach Jerome Allen took over midway through the 2009-10 season, the Penn-Princeton game became the only matchup in the Ivy of head coaches working at their alma mater, first with Sydney Johnson '97 at Princeton and now with Mitch Henderson '98. That run of exclusivity will come to an end when Princeton and Brown play on Feb. 8, now with Brown coach and alum Mike Martin in his first season.

Penn has started 2-12 or poorer only one other time, when the Quakers were 1-13 through 14 games in 2009-10. The Tigers won both games from that Penn team, 58-51 at The Palestra and 68-56 at Jadwin.

Milestones:

Ian Hummer moved into seventh place on the Princeton career scoring list against Elon, passing Bob Scrabis '89 (1,365), now with 1,381 points. Current assistant coach Brian Earl '99 is next at 1,428 points.

Ian Hummer is on pace to stand second in career scoring and career field goals in program history, behind only Bill Bradley '65, by the end of this season. Bradley was a teammate of Ian Hummer's father Ed Hummer '67 for one varsity season, the run to the NCAA national semifinal in 1965.

Hummer is presently fourth on the Princeton list of career field goals made at 538. Former teammate Douglas Davis '12 is next at 545, followed by Kit Mueller '91 at 556. Bill Bradley '65 holds the record at 856.

Hummer has 633 career rebounds, good for sixth since the stat began being kept in 1954-55. In fifth place is Chris Thomforde '69 with 709.

Hummer's 99 blocks are fourth on the program list since the stat began being kept for the 1974-75 season. Next up is former teammate Kareem Maddox '11 at 108.

Entering the Season:

Princeton was picked first in the Ivy League preseason poll, getting 16 of 17 first-place votes out of the pool of two media members from each of the eight Ivy markets and one national writer.

Princeton is aiming for its fourth straight 20-win season, which would be a first since 1999. A fourth straight postseason appearance would be the first such time since 2002.

Princeton is looking for double-digit Ivy League wins in four straight years for the first time since 2004.

Princeton leads the Ivy League with 26 Ivy championships (56 seasons) and 24 NCAA Tournament appearances (all since 1952).

Mitch Henderson '98, the team's Franklin C. Cappon-Edward G. Green '40 head coach, is the 29th man to hold the job and the fourth consecutive alumnus to do so (John Thompson III '88, Joe Scott '87, Sydney Johnson '97).

Henderson, who played in three NCAA Tournaments for Princeton, spent 11 years at Northwestern under one of his former coaches at Princeton, Bill Carmody, as an assistant coach.

Princeton is tied for second with Kansas, and behind only North Carolina, in alumni as active Division I head coaches. Eight Tar Heels are roaming the sidelines, while six Jayhawks and these six Tigers are doing so: Thompson III '88 (Georgetown), Scott '87 (Denver), Johnson '97 (Fairfield), Henderson '98 (Princeton), Chris Mooney '94 (Richmond) and Craig Robinson '83 (Oregon State).

On Penn: The Quakers were picked to finish fifth in the Ivy League this season ... Penn has outrebounded its opponent in only three of 14 games this season, and in only one of the last eight games ... the Quakers are coming off their best shooting game of the season, against Lafayette (.596), but the Leopards shot .612 ... 6-8 junior forward Fran Dougherty is averaging 8.8 rebounds per game, more than five rebounds per game more than any teammate ...
