Men's Volleyball Announces 2013 Schedule, Hosts Pair Of NCAA Semifinalists
Two of the four teams that reached the NCAA championship weekend will head to Dillon Gym during the 2013 Princeton men's volleyball season, when the Tigers will look to return to the EIVA championship match.
Princeton, which returned to the EIVA postseason after a wild final week of the 2012 regular season, will carry both optimism and experience into the 2013 season. The Tigers return two First-Team All-East honorees last season in senior Michael Dye and sophomore Cody Kessel, and they have two of the last three EIVA Rookies of the Year in both Kessel (2012) and junior Pat Schwagler.
Those players, along with U.S. Junior National Team selection Tony Ensbury and a handful of other returning starters, give Princeton reason to be excited for the 2013 season, which opens Jan. 29 at UC-Santa Barbara. You can see the full schedule by clicking the link above.
Princeton will make its EIVA debut Feb. 8 at George Mason, the site of last year's postseason-clinching comeback win, and will make its home debut four days later with a Feb. 12 showdown with Rutgers-Newark.
The Tigers will play 10 matches in Dillon Gym, including two against 2012 NCAA semifinalists. The first will come against reigning MIVA champion Lewis, which earned the third seed in the NCAAs last year. It will be the first half of a home-and-home with the Flyers; the Tigers will travel to Romeoville, Ill., for the rematch March 19.
"We are very excited to be playing MIVA powerhouse Lewis and Loyola on the road, as well as Lewis at home this year," said head coach Sam Shweisky. "These top-15 perennial powerhouse schools will be a great test for our guys. Lewis made it to the NCAA Final Four last year, so they will be an exciting team for us to play.”
On Friday, March 29, Princeton will host 14-time EIVA champion Penn State in a 7 pm match-up. The last time Princeton hosted the Nittany Lions, the Tigers held eight match balls in a marathon loss to the perennial power in Eastern volleyball.
Princeton's final regular season home match will be April 20 at 4 pm against George Mason.
