FAIRFAX, Va. (4/14/12) - Sophomore Tom Hopkins erased a 52-year Princeton record in the 400 today at the Patriot Invitational at George Mason on Saturday, April 14.

Hopkins time of 46.23 bests Dick Edmunds '61 time from 1960 when Edmunds ran 46.44. His time is 0.51 seconds than his previous best of 47.14. Mike Eddy '11 ran 46.49 in 2009, Royce Reed '99 ran 46.57 in 1996 and John Mack '00 ran 46.68 in 2000 to round out the top five times in 400 in program history.

Senior Joe Stilin was the runner-up in the 1500 with a PR of 3:42.79, taking six seconds off his previous best. His time was the best time by a collegian in the event. Sophomore Michael Williams was fifth with a PR of 3:44.97.

Senior Trevor Van Ackeren an a PR in the 800, shaving nearly two seconds off his previous best racing in at 1:50.46 for eighth place.

In the steeplechase, sophomores William Brown and Garrett Rowe both ran PRs. Brown finished third at 9:22.43 and Rowe was fifth at 9:36.13, taking nearly 10 seconds off his best time.

Freshman William Egi qualified for the finals of the 100 when he ran 10.89 in the preliminaries, the fourth best time. He kept his position in the finals with a time of 10.90. Junior Sebastian Steffen also qualified at 10.99, while senior Ivan Charbonneau missed moving on by one place. Steffen finished sixth in the final at 11.07.

In the hurdles, freshman Rob Mohr qualified in the 110 with a time of 14.73 in the prelims and ran 14.80 in the final to take sixth. Junior Richard Sheldon missed the finals by one place after running 14.88 in the prelims. In the 400 hurdles, senior Nilan Schnure took eighth with a time of 55.29.

Princeton finished third in both the 4x100 and 4x400. In the 4x100 Charbonneau, Hopkins, Egi and freshman Daniel McCord ran 41.34. The Tigers' B relay team of Sebastian Steffen, Shane Molidor, Tommaso Greenbaum and Ricky Kearney was fifth at 42.14. Kearney pulled double duty as a leg of the 4x400. Along with Schnure, Jordan Sawadogo and Tom Scott they combined for 3:21.79.

Freshman Adam Bragg and senior Dave Slovenski were both runners-up in the pole vault. The pair both cleared 4.87 on their third and final try. Senior Derek Hynes was fourth at 4.57 and sophomore David Coneway cleared 4.42 for fifth place.

Sophomore Omar Jarrett was fourth in the high jump clearing 2.03 on his first attempt at the height.

In the long jump, Molidor and freshman Stephen Soerens placed sixth and seventh respectively. Molidor jumped to 6.87 on his first jump and Soerens reached 6.86, also on his first jump.

Over in the throws, rookie Scott Rushton threw the shot put to 15.10 to finish sixth overall. Sophomore Brad Pelisek was fifth in the javelin, heaving it to 51.03 on his first attempt.

Princeton hosts the Larry Ellis Invitational next weekend, April 20-21 at Weaver Stadium.
