PRINCETON -- Two solid outings by Liza Kuhn and Meredith Brown, plus plenty of offense, lifted the Princeton softball team to a twinbill sweep of La Salle Thursday afternoon.

Princeton won the first game 8-0 in a run-rule shortened five innings, while the Tigers took a shutout into the seventh inning of the second game before winning 7-1. The wins lift Princeton to 11-20 on the year, while La Salle fell to 6-29.

The Tigers improved their record to 14-0 all-time against La Salle, which hadn't faced Princeton since 2001 and hadn't come to the Class of 1895 Field since 1988.

Game 1: Princeton 8, La Salle 0 (5 inn.)

Liza Kuhn retired the last 10 batters she faced in a one-hit, five-inning effort to lead Princeton to an 8-0 win over La Salle in Thursday's opener.

A hit batter in the first inning and a clean single to right field in the second were all that separated Kuhn (5-8) from a perfect game while the offense did the rest. Princeton rolled to a 6-0 lead in the second inning with a two-run double by Alyssa Schmidt, a two-run single by Cara Worden, and a two-run home run by Kelsey VandeBergh, all with two out.

Princeton padded the lead to 8-0 on Lizzy Pierce's two-run home run in the third. Alyssa Bitsimis (0-3) gave up sixh hits, walked two and hit another in the loss for the Explorers, while Worden had two of Princeton's six hits.

Game 2: Princeton 7, La Salle 1

Princeton steadily built its lead in the nightcap before La Salle scratched out a run in the top of the seventh in the Tigers' 7-1 win.

Tiger pitcher Meredith Brown (2-4) gave up five hits without a walk, striking out seven.

Kelsey VandeBergh drove home Princeton's first two runs, picking up Alyssa Schmidt with a single in the first and leading the third with a solo home run. Tory Roberts scored Alex Peyton with a double in the third, putting Princeton ahead 3-0.

Peyton led off the fifth with a solo home run to put Princeton ahead 4-0 and hit another blast in the sixth that gave the Tigers a 7-0 lead after VandeBergh added an RBI-single earlier in the frame.

La Salle used two infield singles, a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly to get on the board in the seventh.

Princeton will host Penn for doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday at 12:30 p.m. each day. The Tigers and Quakers both enter the weekend at 5-3, two games back of Cornell in the Ivy League South division.
