After a strong start with victories over both Syracuse and Georgetown, Princeton returns to Lake Carnegie this weekend to take on both Penn and Columbia for the Childs Cup, the oldest trophy in collegiate rowing.

Princeton was ranked fourth in the preseason USRowing Collegiate Poll, while both Columbia and Penn could make jumps into the Top 10 with strong showings Saturday. The Lions were ranked 13th, while the Quakers were ranked 16th.

In its annual season-opening scrimmage, Princeton won all four races against both Georgetown and Syracuse. Columbia topped Dartmouth, Holy Cross and MIT last weekend, while Penn defeated George Washington.

Princeton has won this regatta twice in a row, including a hard-fought three-second win over Columbia last season, and it can finally gain an edge in the all-time series over Penn with a victory. The Tigers and the Quakers have each won 44 times since the regatta was first held in 1879.

"It's exciting, because it's very seldom when we think outside of our own boathouse," head coach Greg Hughes said. "So much of the focus is on what we want to do, and how we want to do it. Sometimes you lose sight of those big, lofty traditions. You see those trophies, and they are special. When I think about the Childs Cup, it's special. There is a lot of history there. It helps us remember that the tradition in the boathouse is bigger than us."

The Childs Cup is the oldest trophy in all of collegiate rowing, and this will be the 101st renewal of this series. The Tigers will be looking for their first home win in the Childs Cup since 2006; Columbia ended a 15-year Tiger run in 2009.
