USA Volleyball has announced the players and staff for the 2012 U.S. Men’s Volleyball Junior National Training Team, and Princeton freshman Tony Ensbury has been selected as one of the 19 players.

Twelve of the 19 training team players will be chosen from the training team to compete at the NORCECA Men’s Under-21 Continental Championship, which will be Aug. 27-Sept. 1 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The top two teams at the NORCECA (North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation) Championship will qualify for the 2013 FIVB Men’s Junior World Championship.

Pete Hanson, head men’s volleyball coach at Ohio State University, will lead the squad, assisted by Jay Hosack (Penn State University) and Jonah Carson (University of the Pacific) along with technical coordinator Randy Nako.

Ensbury served as the starting libero for Princeton throughout the 2012 season, and he helped the Tigers reach the EIVA semifinals. He averaged 2.12 digs per set, more than any freshman in the NCAA, and he recorded nine matches with double-digit digs. He averaged 15 digs per match during two must-win contests during the last week of the season to help Princeton reach the EIVA playoffs; his performance earned him EIVA Defensive Player of the Week honors.

“This group of 19 athletes who will be vying for 12 roster spots is both athletic and very experienced, with many of them having participated in last summer’s Youth World Championship,” Hanson said. “We are hoping that those experiences will be a springboard for a great summer of training and competition at the NORCECA tournament.”
