Slifer Has Banner Day as Women's Lacrosse Tops Harvard, 15-6

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (4/12/14) - Princeton holds down sole possession of second place in the Ivy League women's lacrosse standings as the Tigers defeated Harvard 15-6 on Saturday, April 12 at Harvard Stadium.

Junior Erin Slifer had a banner day with a career-high seven-point game. She matched her career bests with four goals and three assists. Junior Erin McMunn put together her best offensive output of the season with five goals and an assist. Sophomore Anya Gersoff had a hat trick. Defensively, sophomore Liz Bannantine caused two turnovers and picked up three ground balls. In net junior Annie Woehling made eight saves in net and had three ground balls.

Princeton controlled the pace of the game throughout, rarely allowing Harvard to get much time of possession.

The Tigers grabbed a 3-1 lead in the first 18 minutes and continued to pour it on adding four more goals to Harvard's two in the last 12 minutes. Three of Princeton's goal came via the eight-meter arc. Slifer collected an early hat trick, with five minutes left in the first half.

McMunn's hat trick came on the first goal of the second half and started a three-goal Princeton run as the Tigers grabbed an 11-3 edge 3:57 into the second.

Another 3-1 run gave Princeton a 10-goal lead, 14-4, and the running clock but two minutes later Harvard's leading scorer Marisa Romeo halted the clock with her second goal of the game.

McMunn tallied her fifth goal of the game at 4:43 before a free-position goal by Sophia Capone at 1:58 capped the scoring.

Princeton outshot Harvard 25-20, including a 12-8 differential in the first half. Princeton had a 19-12 edge in ground balls and had one more caused turnovers, 6-5. Harvard had a 12-11 advantage in draw controls.

Romeo and Audrey Todd both scored twice for Harvard, while Kelly Weis made six stops in goal.

Princeton hosts Penn in pivotal Ivy League matchup on Wednesday night on Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium.
