Ratcliffe Sets Meet Record with Best Throw in Nation at Sam Howell Invite

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/5/14) – Sophomore Julia Ratcliffe set a meet record in the hammer throw to highlight Princeton’s day as it hosted the Sam Howell Invitational at Weaver Stadium.

Ratcliffe threw to 68.71 (225-05) to win the event with not only her best throw of the season, but the best throw in the nation this season. It’s the second consecutive weekend that Ratcliffe has thrown the nation’s leading throw, after a toss of 66.31 at Monmouth. She was just 3.75 inches off her PR.

Freshman Rachael Chacko was the runner-up in the 1500 as she posted a 4:42.49. She was the top collegiate coming in behind a competitor from a track club.

Sophomore Meghan McMullin earned two second-place finishes. She was the runner-up in the 400 hurdles at 1:00.97 and was the first leg of the 4x400 relay that finished second. Along with junior Emily Broyles, senior Kristin Smoot and junior Kim Mackay the relay was second out of 21 relays at 3:50.33.

Mackay followed up with a 2:13.66 n the 800. Although she was eighth she was the top collegiate with the first seven runners across the line from track clubs or unattached. Freshman Zoe Sims was 10th at 2:14.49 and Cecilia Barowski ran unattached to take fourth at 2:06.20.

In the 100 hurdles, senior Beth McKenna clocked 14.68 to take fourth while sophomore Kerry Krause was seventh at 14.91.

Freshman Allison Harris placed third in the pole vault clearing 3.60 (11-9.75) while senior Samantha Anderson was seventh at 3.45 (11-3.75).

In the high jump, sophomores Taylor Morgan and Inka Busack went 5-6 as both cleared 1.60 (5-3).

Sophomore Sara Ronde had a fifth-place finish in the long jump as she leaped to 5.38 (17-8).

Other top-10 finishes included: senior Ashley Vandolah ninth in the javelin at 39.14 (128-05), freshman Alex Lanzafame ninth in the triple jump at 11.19 (36-8.50), freshman Elisa Steele 10th in the 400 at 58.05 and junior Joanna Anyanwu 10th in the 100 at 12.46.

Princeton hosts a quad meet with Monmouth, St. John’s and Vermont next Saturday, April 12 at Weaver Stadium.
