Women's Lacrosse Tops Columbia 15-5
NEW YORK, N.Y. (3/26/14) - The Princeton women's lacrosse team topped Columbia 15-5 on Wednesday, March 26 as the Tigers won their fourth straight game and captured their first Ivy League win.
Seven players had two or more points, including a four-point effort from junior Erin McMunn. McMunn tallied two goals and two assists while picking up three ground balls. Sophomores Alexandra Bruno, Anya Gersoff and Anna Menke along with senior Mary-Kate Sivilli and freshman Anna Doherty scored twice each. Gersoff and Sivilli both won three draws apiece. Junior Annie Woehling nabbed her fourth win of the season making eight saves.
Paige Cuscovitch scored four of her teams' five goals while Ashley Rinere added the final tally. Colleen Packer made six saves in goal.
All three of Columbia's first-half goals came on free-position attempts. The Lions took a 2-1 lead less than 10 minutes into the game as they converted on their first two eight-meter opportunities.
Not disconcerted, Princeton rallied off five straight goals. McMunn scored twice and assisted on Bruno's goal, while Doherty and Slifer scored free-position goals.
Cuscovitch tallied her second 8-meter of the game to halt the Princeton run but Doherty had the last word with a goal in the waning seconds of the first half to give the Tigers a 7-3 edge at intermission.
The Tigers increased their lead to 9-3 when Sivilli and freshman Olivia Hompe scored 18 seconds apart.
Cuscovtich scored twice to bring the Lions within four but they would be held scoreless for the last 19 minutes as Princeton capped off the game with 6-0 run.
Freshman Ellie DeGarmo came in on relief for Woehling in goal for the final 6:55. In her second appearance this season, she made four saves on four shots.
Princeton hosts Cornell on Saturday, March 29 at 1 p.m., the first game of a three-game homestand.
