Two of the top four teams in the nation met on the Cayuga Inlet Saturday morning, and the third-ranked Big Red retained the Platt Cup with a victory over No. 4 Princeton.

Cornell earned wins in the V8, second varsity and the freshman eight. The Big Red freshmen earned the Harriet Trophy and handed the Princeton freshmen their first loss of the season.

"Cornell performed how we expected them to perform in all of their boats," head coach Marty Crotty said. "They have good crews that have good base speed. Our guys raced with the right intensity but never found a sustainable base and that cost us in the second half of the first and second varsity races. We know what we need to work on."

Princeton will head to the Schuylkill River next weekend for the annual Wood-Hammond Cup regatta against Penn and Georgetown.
