Gassaway's Five-Goal Game Leads No. 18 Women's Lax to Win at Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (4/6/13) - Senior Jaci Gassaway had a five-goal game to lead No. 18 Princeton to a 14-9 win over Yale in women's lacrosse on Saturday, April 6 at Reese Stadium.

The Tigers are now 7-3 on the season and remain unbeaten in the Ivy League at 4-0.

With the game tied at 2-2, 10 minutes into the game, Princeton went on a 6-0 run to take a 8-2 lead. Yale's leading scorer Devon Rhodes added her second goal of the day with four seconds left in the first half as the Tigers took an 8-3 lead into the locker room.

The teams traded goals during the first 15 minutes of the second half with Yale getting within three, 10-7.

The Tigers rattled off three straight goals to push their lead to 13-7 with 6:11 to play. In the final four minutes Yale scored twice and Princeton once, with each team scoring on the eight meter.

Sophomore Erin McMunn had a five-point game with three goals and two assists. Senior Charlotte Davis tallied a hat trick, while junior Sarah Lloyd had a four-point game with one goal and three assists. Freshman Alexandra Bruno scored twice and sophomore Erin Slifer chipped in two helpers. Freshman defender Liz Bannantine had a team-high three caused turnovers and three ground balls.

Junior Caroline Franke made six saves in goal, five of which came in the second half, as Yale tried to mount a comeback, outshooting Princeton 15-11. The Tigers finished with 28 shots to Yale's 24. Erin McMullan made nine saves in goal for Yale.

Rhodes finished the game with four goals for Yale as did Nicole Daniggelis, who also added an assist. Christina Doherty chipped in two assists as the Bulldogs fall to 6-5 overall and 0-4 in the Ivy League.

Princeton led Yale in draw controls 13-11 and caused turnovers, 9-6. Both teams had 11 ground balls apiece.

Princeton travels to No. 1 Maryland for a mid-week game on Wednesday, April 10.
