Courtesy: Princeton Athletic Communications Augie Bloom and Katie Goepel will lead their teams into their spring break matches as preparation for the Ivy League season continues.

Both Princeton tennis teams will head to California for spring break matches, though one will detour before arriving in the Golden State for a week away from campus.

The second spring break weekend, which is next weekend, will be the teams' last before Ivy League play opens against Penn on Mar. 30, at home for the men and in Philadelphia for the women.

The women will begin their break week in Syracuse for a match against the Orange Sunday at 10 a.m. Princeton has its highest ITA ranking in a full year, checking in at No. 64 on this week's ITA list. The Orange are unranked, and neither team was represented on the newly released singles or doubles lists.

Princeton's women enter the match at 7-3 and winners of two straight after a sweep of DePaul and Binghamton last weekend in Jadwin Gym. The Orange enter at 5-6 overall and 2-1 in Big East matches, including a 4-3 win over DePaul one day after the Blue Demons lost 4-3 at Princeton.

Princeton is 12-2 all-time against the Orange, though this will be the teams' first meeting since 2010 and Princeton's first visit to Syracuse since 1994. Following the Syracuse match, Princeton will head to California and will play one match over the week, at Loyola Marymount next Thursday.

The men's team, despite being winners of six in a row to stand at 9-3, fell four spots in this week's ranking to No. 56 nationally. Matija Pecotic rose two spots since the last national singles ranking two weeks ago, now at No. 4. He and Zack McCourt are the nation's No. 32 doubles team.

The Tiger men will head to central California to face Cal Poly Sunday for Princeton's first match against an ITA-ranked foe since the ECAC tournament in mid-February but the team's sixth such match this season. The Mustangs check in at No. 45 this week, coming off a loss last Monday to Middle Tennessee State to fall to 6-4. The match will start at 4:30 p.m. ET, 1:30 local time in California.

It'll be the second straight year the Tigers and Mustangs have matched up in San Luis Obispo. Cal Poly took a 6-1 win last year on Princeton's spring trip in the teams' first meeting in their history.

Following the Cal Poly match, Princeton's men will head down the coast to take on Pepperdine in Malibu next Wednesday in a contest sure to be a challenge for the Tigers as the Waves are No. 12 in the nation this week. A match a week from Saturday at UC Irvine will follow, and a new ITA ranking will be out next Tuesday, prior to those matches.
