No. 10 Women's Water Polo Sweeps Day One at Bucknell Invite

The 10th-ranked Princeton women's water polo team outscored its opponents 29-14 to sweep day one action at the Bucknell Invitational Saturday in Lewisburg, Pa. The Tigers dropped Wagner 16-8 and concluded the day upending Marist 13-6.

Princeton (5-1) dives back into action tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 17 with a final pair of matches. The Tigers' open the day with No. 12 Indiana at 12:40 p.m. and wrap up the weekend with Hartwick at 4:10 p.m.

Led by 11 different goal scorers, the Tigers handed Wagner a tournament-opening loss.

Princeton forced the Seahawks on their heels early, jutted out to a 7-3 lead by halftime and opened the second half with a 6-2 run to secure the victory.

Sophomore Jessie Holechek paced Princeton with three goals, and Ashley Hatcher, Molly McBee and Saranna Soroka each found the net twice. Taylor Dunstan served up a team-high five assists, while Brittany Zwirner accounted for three of Princeton's 10 steals.

In goal, freshman Ashleigh Johnson made seven saves and a steal over her three quarters of work. Classmate Pippa Temple took over goaltending duties in the fourth quarter, tallying two saves and an assist in her debut in the cage.

Carrying over the momentum from their first game, the Tigers jumped out to a quick advantage, 3-1, and maintained it through the end of regulation to defeat Marist 13-6.

Princeton had another six-goal quarter, this time in the second to go into halftime up 9-3. The Tiger defensive line held off a second half rally attempt by the Red Foxes to preserve their fifth straight victory.

Zwirner brought her steal total to six on the day, adding three along with a pair of goals and an assist. The offense was powered by Katie Rigler's team-high three goals.

Johnson had eight saves and two steals in her complete game victory.
