Tennis Teams to Open Ivy Play Saturday with Penn
Both Princeton tennis teams will open Ivy League play Saturday at 1 p.m. against Penn with the women at home and the men in Philadelphia.
The 66th-ranked Tiger women (11-5) are one of four Ivy teams in the ITA's top 75, and the Tigers have faced six ranked opponents so far. Penn (7-4) and Princeton has three common opponents faced so far in Temple, Maryland and Rutgers. The Tigers swept the trio while Penn defeated Temple and Rutgers but not Maryland. Princeton has one ranked singles player in No. 84 Alanna Wolff.
The 56th-ranked Tiger men (10-7) are one of seven Ivy League teams ranked in the ITA's top 75. Princeton has faced nine ranked teams in its first 17 matches and won two of those bouts, against then-No. 56 Buffalo on March 1 and then-No. 61 Denver on March 7. Penn (4-9) and Princeton have four common opponents faced so far in Buffalo, Marquette, Penn State and San Diego State. Princeton defeated three of the four, except Penn State, while the Quakers did not get a win among those four foes.
Though both Quaker teams are unranked by the ITA, the matches are big for the Tigers as Princeton will still have to face the rest of the league's ranked opponents. Princeton's men will close the Ivy slate with six straight ranked foes if all six remain in the rankings, while the Tiger women have the other three ranked opponents ahead in Columbia, Harvard and Yale. Next weekend will send the women to Yale and Brown wile the Bulldogs and the Bears will come to Princeton to face the Tiger men.
