Baseball Drops 7-1 Decision at Duke; To Play Maine Thursday
After three scoreless innings, Duke responded with back-to-back multi-run frames and carried its momentum to a 7-1 victory over the Princeton baseball team Wednesday evening in Durham, N.C.
The Tigers fall to 3-8 on the year, but will have the chance to rebound immediately with a game versus Maine at 11 a.m. at Navy in Annapolis, Md.
Sophomore Danny Hoy led the Tigers going 4-for-4 and accounted for their lone run in the ninth.
Duke held a 9-6 hit advantage, while two Princeton errors were factors in the Blue Devils' scoring.
Princeton out hit Duke 3-1 before the Blue Devils broke away with three runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth.
The Tigers were limited to three hits over the final four innings and broke up the shutout in the ninth. Hoy led off with a triple and was sent home on a Paul Tupper ground out. Princeton would put on two more base runners, but was unable to extend the inning.
