Ratcliffe Sets School Record as Women's Track Takes 2nd at HYP

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (2/15/13) –Sophomore Julia Ratcliffe broke her own Princeton school record in the weight throw as she threw to 19.78 (64-10.75) at the annual HYP Meet at Coxe Cage.

Ratcliffe's throw was nearly four feet further than the rest of the competition as she bested her previous record of 19.74 (64-9.25)

The Princeton women’s track & field team had a four-year HYP win streak come to an end as Harvard won the annual event with 69 points to Princeton’s 48.5 and Yale’s 41.5.

In the 5-3-2-1 scored meet (5-3 in relays), senior Imani Oliver was also a winner taking the top honor in the triple jump. She and freshman Alex Lanzafame went 1-2 in the triple with Oliver reaching 12.49 (40-11.75) and Lanzafame hitting 11.80 (38-8.75).

Senior Lily Miller was second in the long jump as she reached 5.28 (17-4). Freshman Ariel Becker was fourth at 5.27 (17-3.50) as the pair collected four points towards the team total.

The pair of seniors Samantha Anderson and Sara Rubin also scored in the pole vault. Anderson was the runner up clearing 3.70 (12-1.5) while Rubin got over 3.00 (9-10).

Sophomore Inka Busack tied for third in the high jump with a jump of 1.65 (5-5). Senior Theresa Kennedy also cleared the height and was fifth to grab the final point.

The Tigers earned points in both the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles. Junior Emily Easton was fourth in the dash at 7.93 while senior Beth McKenna was third in the hurdles at 8.95.

Princeton earned six points in the 400 as the Tigers went 2-3-4-5-6-8. Freshman Elisa Steele was the runner up at 58.65, with sophomore Emily Broyles third at 59.12 and sophomore Sumer Hanson fourth at 59.69.

In the 800 senior Kacie O’Neil clocked 2:12.66 to finish in third place.

Junior Emily de La Bruyere was the runner-up in the mile at 4:50.32 and freshman Lizzy Bird was fourth at 4:51.40 for four tpoints.

Five more points came in the 3k as freshman Megan Curham was second at 9:29.75 and sophomore Kathryn Fluehr was third at 9:36.69.

Both the 4x400 and 4x800 relays earned second-place finishes. The 4x400 of Kennedy, McKenna, Kerry Krause and Charquia Wright was just edged by Harvard at the finish line, by one-hundredth of a second - 3:52.96 to 3:52.97.

O’Neil, de La Bruyere, Rachael Chacko and Molly Higgins posted a 9:08.25 in the 4x800.

Princeton competes at home next weekend, Feb. 12 when it hosts the Princeton Invitational at Jadwin Gym.
