Game 12: Princeton vs. Lehigh

 2
(5-4-3)

Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013
Roberts Stadium • Princeton, N.J.

 1
(3-8-2)

Box Score

53:41: Lehigh's Darby Weigand scored on passes upfield from Brinn McClennan and Paige Dyrek

56:48: Princeton's Jessica Haley scored off a crossing pass from Jesse McDonough after Haley Chow started the play on a free kick

88:18: Princeton's Melissa Downey scored after Tyler Lussi played a ball in the box and Downey recovered

12-1: Princeton out-cornered Lehigh by that margin, and though none of the corners directly resulted in goals, it puts a number on the pressure the Tigers were putting on Lehigh. Jessica Haley was among those handling the corner kicks.

Melissa Downey was opportunistic on the game-winning goal in the 89th minute. Tyler Lussi's try in the box was blocked by Lehigh defenders, but Downey was there for the loose ball and found the open net.

• Princeton snapped a four-game winless streak with the victory.

• Princeton stayed unbeaten all-time against Lehigh, now leading the series 18-0-1.

• Melissa Downey scored for the first time since her freshman year, a day more than two years since. Her last goal came on Oct. 15, 2011 against Columbia. All three of her career goals have come at Roberts Stadium.

• Princeton ended a three-game scoreless streak, a rarity as it was the Tigers' first since 2007. Princeton avoided going scoreless for a fourth straight game, which has not happened since 1996.

• Downey's goal was the third that Princeton has scored in the final 10 minutes of a game this season. It was the latest Princeton goal in a game since Jen Hoy's 94th-minute goal on Oct. 22, 2012 at La Salle.

Saturday at 1 p.m., Princeton will host Columbia (7-4-2, 0-2-1) at Roberts Stadium. The Tigers will honor the 2004 NCAA College Cup semifinalist team at halftime and bobbleheads will be given away as supplies last.
